A simple regulatory step that no party may receive or retain a donation from any person convicted of an offence of dishonesty would seem the appropriate reaction. “Political parties can’t be laundries for dirty money” is not a principle to which I would see the Courts objecting.

If every statement about Extinction Rebellion had opened with "Climate change is the single biggest issue facing humanity, and we understand why people have legitimate concerns the world isn't doing enough to tackle it…" this approach might be *faintly* defensible. But they didn't, and it isn't.

Everyone on X and elsewhere who called for a violent response should be charged with incitement. Everyone involved in the pogrom should be locked up with exemplary sentences. Govt should make it clear that will be the response in future anywhere else. Enough.
