Sometimes I’m so tired I want to cry. Not adult-cry. Toddler-cry. With the vocalized whining and the gasping sobs. Sometimes I want to cry like I’m calling for someone else to fix it.

Since it’s still Disability Month, or whatever we call it… Hi! I have slept for three hours, and now my brain won’t stop talking to me and my body feels like a week-old surgery scar. Good thing I’m also worried about how to support myself and my husband, eh?

I'm watching Great Pottery Throwdown and I can't watch without thinking of this scene with Glenn and Hillary and how this is where everything really starts for them and how much I love them.
“I don’t want pity grades,” I grit out. “Let me do it again. Let me do it right this time.”
“I grade you the same as everyone else,” Glenn growls. “Now pack up your stuff, and let’s go home.”
My heart is beating hard enough that I can feel it, and it’s not helping me rein in my anger.
“You’re right. This is pointless! I’m never going to pass! It won’t matter how many pots I put in there,” I cry, pointing to the kiln across the room behind them, “they’re all going to blow up! I’m never going to get the hang of this, no matter how many times I try! I’m just a fuck-up, and there’s nothing anyone can–”
“Can I hug you?”
“What?”

After two minutes of watching the Calgary stampede on a diner’s telly, I can confirm that rodeo is one of the stupidest, most vile “sports” out there. Leave that poor creature alone, you dicks, what the fuck?

The difficult thing with the current state of discussions around trans rights is you can say 'I think trans people are worthy of dignity and respect' and someone will reply 'So you're saying it's ok for John Cena to punch my grandma?!'

Israel is a nuclear armed genocidal rogue state. It is allowed to commit every war crime under the sun - armed and facilitated by the West. Yet you hear so few people saying these truths on TV. Here's what I said this morning.

Saying to be against gen ai “is ableist” is actual ableism! You’re not only dismissing thousands of years of art and work done by disabled people, who have always been creating, but by supporting ai you also cutting off a big source of income for many disabled artists on top of stealing their work

I left Goodreads last January, but sometimes I'm tempted to look at reviews. &it makes me realize how restrictive Goodreads is! GR trained maybe millions of readers to reduce all of world literature to 5-star ratings and the often uninteresting and irrelevant question of "how fun was this to read."

As a horror goblin and a trans woman, for Pride Month, I also must spotlight my own work a tiny bit! I create the show Echoes in a Jar, an audio horror anthology of dark tales, disgusting monsters, some jokes, and a slight dab of trauma. I'd love if you could check it out, completely for free!

Found this screenshot of a conversation we had a few years back. Never a dull moment in this household!
Me: “You know how you have different words for the animal and the meat of the animal?”
Husband: “Like steak?”
Me: “Well yeah, but… like when you eat the meat it’s called pork, but when you see the animal, it’s—“
Husband: “Bacon?”
Me: “Well. Okay.”

Remarkable. Missed the mark in every single way possible. Not a voice actor, don’t speak a word of Mandarin or Cantonese, and if given the chance, would 100% sabotage your large language model and laugh about it with my friends.

Couple things. How the author chooses to describe (or not) the setting informs the reader of tone, backstory, even character development. It's not just there to make the word count. 1/

Floorboards are bathed in red light as if from a door, illuminating the front of a figure on their knees. The figure sits in the centre of a pentagram of candles, arms outstretched, mouth wide and face obscured. The flames from the candles billow in ribbons across the frame. The shadow cast by the figure is demonic with unholy limbs grasping painfully. Small singed cards float in the air around the figure. Text in the shadow reads ‘Malys’. A green banner reads 'Just launched Kickstarter'.

I had to dig pretty deep in old, dusty, somewhat repressed memories, but I found it. This is the story of a boy named Louis—a puppeteer—who comes to a village to show off his beautiful blue bird. He wants to make the bird fly, but a puppet can’t fly. A puppet doesn’t have life. 1/3
Front cover of a children’s book. “Le Bel Oiseau, une histoire de Jean-Pierre Idatte, illustrée par Michel Trublin.
The cover shows a beautiful mechanical blue bird soaring above a village.

For fuck's sake, Walmart. You can't substitute a zero sugar soda for its regular version. That is not equivalent. This isn't "oooh, I'm watching my weight so I'll get the diet version today". This is "diabetic person receives a drink they're going to have to pour down the sink if they want to live".

Having watched a YouTuber play the beginning of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, I can say it’s not landing for me emotionally. I liked the premise, but found the execution lacking. The characters (so far) feel generic, and the big tragic emotional moments of the intro just don’t feel quite…earned?
