Also unmedicated and do a lot to self manage, am seemingly very functional. I feel like these people also miss that all this is just really flipping HARD. It's not some magical fix everything through exercise, it's exhausting endless self management.

We've been waiting for this report from NSF for many months — results of a survey on sexual harassment at US Antarctic stations. The numbers aren't good, but at least this problem is out in the open & starting to be tackled. www.nature.com/articles/d41...

I agree, and I also find it slightly patronising to be told 'you'll be fine' reading on a screen. I read on a screen all the time. I also think that if I'm trusted to review a book I should be trusted to say what the best way is for me to do it

This is beautifully written and such a compelling story. I confess that I usually stay away from 'heroic era' Antarctica, but the humanity of these men shines in your story, and shows them as so much more than 'just' their Antarctic story. Brilliant.

2024 was a mixture. I got my PhD, had my first publications, including a book chapter, gave talks in some of my favourite places, and completed a research fellowship. But, that came with a lot of stress and precarity. I'm very happy to go into 2025 with a stable non-ac job with wonderful people!
