Have you been seeing more Jays than usual in recent weeks? There seems to a movement of exploratory birds, potentially seeking out acorns due to a big acorn crop failure this summer. On clear days parties of 10+ have been logged at coastal sites with inland movements too. Nutcracker soon too?

seeing conservative men debate how to dress online is very funny. can't dress up or wear interesting casualwear bc you've made any visible interest in dress to be a sign of homosexuality. but you feel the need to dress better bc you've linked dress to respectability. a prison of your own making.

My husband's gran, aged 95, used to mock me (in my late 30s) because I did not dye my hair, and, she said, it made me look older than her!!! The thing is, in the immortal words of Rhett Butler "Darling, I do not give a damn!" www.theguardian.com/fashion/2026...

More celebrities are embracing grey hair. For other women, it can come at a cost
Olivia Colman and Lisa Bonet are among the stars going silver – but workplace ageism means many women still fear ditching the dye

I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

Agreed. It is unfair and unsustainable to flood free publication services like arXiv with an excessive amount of fast-track manuscripts. I recall a quote from Studio Ghibli in the film The Cat Returns: "Whenever someone creates something with all of their heart, then that creation is given a soul."

This is it. This is what everyone is enabling by humoring genAI: you spend months writing something that took you years to get at, for an opaque algorithm that a few control to spit a number and cut you off right there and then. This is what we're up against 🧪
