One more piece to noodle on: this heat dome stretches from the eastern U.S. out over the Atlantic. Ocean waters running 1.5-2°F above average. Warmth -- made 100-300x more likely by heat-trapping pollution -- shuttling straight into the U.S., translating to extra, sultry heat. /6

We didn't previously integrate wildfire-smoke costs into the supposed cost of climate change for the US, and it turns out to be bigger than all those other costs combined. Oops! Gosh I wonder if we're underestimating anything else. Probably shoulda done something about this. Ah well.

These things weigh approximately a ton each. So far over 100 are being pushed downstream by rising floodwaters and officials are trying to figure out how to keep them from hitting a bridge and who knows what else. Eesh.
