Hallucinations, delusions, and superstitions can arise from perfectly rational processes. They're the inevitable byproducts of any system that demands an answer from partial information that may or may not contain it. Often, that's worth the risk. alexweldon.substack.com/p/delusional...

The latest from the Pidgin Kitchen is this beef rib that Ronit called a “Marshmallow Rib.” Just as Pigeon Pie contains no pigeons, the Marshmallow Rib is devoid of marshmallow, but does have a toasted sweetness, soft texture, and campfire smokiness.

This is seismic news for fisheries scientists. Northern cod is *the* iconic symbol of total fisheries collapse due to overfishing (and other factors) *and* the iconic symbol of a complete failure to recover for decades afterwards. This is like announcing the complete recovery of bison on land.

Smoke from a forest fire hangs over the view toward Bayer's Lake from Dartmouth East. The silhouette of a water bomber can be seen flying through the smoke. Cars drive on a highway in the foreground.

Incredible scene. FBI: Do you like Marx? Mhmood Mamdani: I haven’t met him. FBI: No, no, he’s dead. MM: Wow, what happened? FBI: No, no, he died long ago. ... He wrote that poor people should not be poor. MM: Sounds amazing. www.warscapes.com/conversation...
BS: How was that? How long were you in jail?

MM: One night. They let you make one phone call, and I called the Ugandan Ambassador in Washington, DC, talked to him, and he said, “What are you doing interfering in the affairs of a foreign country?” I said, “What? We just got our independence! This is the same struggle. Have you forgotten?” Anyway, he got me out. Two or three weeks later, I was in my room. There was a knock at the door. Two gentlemen in trench coats and hats said, “FBI.” I thought, “Wow, just like on television.” They sat down. They were there to find out why I had gone – because this turned out to be big – it is after Montgomery that King organized his march on Selma. They wanted to know who had influenced me. After one hour of probing, the guy said, “Do you like Marx?”

I said, “I haven’t met him.”

Guy said, “No, no, he’s dead.”

“Wow, what happened?”

“No, no, he died long ago.”

I thought the guy Marx had just died. So then, “Why are you asking me if he died long ago?”

“No, he wrote a lot. He wrote that poor people should not be poor.”

I said, “Sounds amazing.”

I’m giving you a sense of how naïve I was. After they left, I went to the library to look for Marx. So that was my introduction to Karl Marx.

STATEMENT:

By now, you may have seen the photos or heard the news: a far-right hate group held a rally at the Dartmouth Cenotaph at Sullivan’s Pond.

The cenotaph is a sacred and solemn space—built to honour those who fought and sacrificed for freedom, not just for some, but for all.

For a hate group to rally there is an insult to that sacrifice and an attack on the very values Canada stands for.

Hate must have no place in Canada.

Whether in Ottawa, where swastikas were flown alongside defaced Canadian flags, or at the NS/NB border with far-right Diagolon supporters—every time time politicians like Poilievre and the Conservatives lend support, they embolden them to go even further, spreading their hate and disinformation.

Let’s be clear: this was not a peaceful protest. There is no peace in hate. There is no excuse, no justification, no room for neutrality.

This was a white supremacist hate rally, and we must call it what it is.

We must stand together—here in Dartmouth–Cole Harbour and across Canada—to reject this hate and defend the values that truly make us strong.

The photographer's 12-year-old son, wearing a greenish hoodie, is also lurking just past the lip of the outcropping, peeking up in similar fashion to the graffiti face.

There are few bright spots in the world right now. However, if we're looking for positives, it is extremely funny that Canadian conservatives are on track to blow a ~160-projected-seat lead as a result of two things right-wingers thought they wanted: Trump beating Biden, and Trudeau resigning.
