I dig the cost of living argument but can’t figure if you are saying it should be a higher floor in Seattle (eg 1.2M) or a lower floor elsewhere (eg 600k in Cle ellum)?

I assert that there’s nowhere in WA where making *more* than a mil puts you in a place where you can’t pay a little more to help everyone else. Including Seattle.

Alex Weinert @alexweinert.bsky.social · 12/03/2026

There’s no higher cost of living in the state. I currently pull well under $1M a year and am doing great. You make >$1M and can’t afford to live inside city limits?

110

Alex Weinert @alexweinert.bsky.social · 12/03/2026

Is $1M a year rich in Seattle? I feel like it is. If not, what is? This tax is just Seattle, so Alabama and Manhattan aren’t too important to solve for

Not clear on what you mean? What model do you propose?

Alex Weinert @alexweinert.bsky.social · 12/03/2026

I mean also how about … support the society that gave you so much? Be a decent human?

I think an equal problem is the people who are so desperate for someone to worship that they think the billionaires somehow deserve their obscene wealth and the power that comes with it. Witness 2024 voting.

Why is the right so obsessed with what’s between peoples’ legs? Weirdos. (Rhetorical question. Just horrified and pissed.)

Alex Weinert @alexweinert.bsky.social · 12/03/2026

Point is, systems which concentrate more and more wealth in the hands of fewer and fewer are robbing the many to further fatten the wallets of the richest. So let’s try doing SOMETHING different. I suspect this tax will drive out a few greedy people, but net benefit the population.

I am watching people whine about the millionaire’s tax in Seattle on LinkedIn. It is 9.9% on earnings in excess of $1M. So if you made $1.2M next year, you would pay approx $20k to support Seattle infrastructure. People are saying eg Schultz fleeing will leave Seattle in ruins. So just leaving this:

Wealth inequality in America just hit its widest gap in more than 3 decades

Nearly one-third of U.S. household wealth was held by the top 1% in the third quarter of 2025.

I know, I know....I hate to derail your holiday shopping, but you may want to think twice before you buy the 370 square miles of wrapping paper.

A picture of Mount Rainier (this year's hottest gift) with a timely reminder that "I am not a toy. I am not a Christmas present. I am a 500,000 year commitment." And just in case that didn't fully sink in for you...we also added a note at the bottom stating "Please think hard before you give someone an active volcano this holiday season."

I will take a few months for adventuring and to explore options for my next chapter. It will be hard to find a mission or team that holds a candle to this one … but I’ll sure try. 😊 (4/5)
