Hello! 🐦‍⬛ meet our newest cuddly family member! A really cute and soft raven, just waiting for a name and their personality to manifest! ❤️

This might just be my experience, but it feels like people trying to promote things outside train stations go too far now. This evening, one was following me down the street trying to get my attention about whatever they were selling even though I said ‘no, thanks’ and had headphones on. Too much!

Being autistic impacts basically everything about us, from our senses to how we think. So even though it comes with some downsides (social stuff, meltdowns, etc.), it’s also part of all the good things about us, the things we like about ourselves./

I don’t know who needs to hear this but…Channel 52 Great Christmas launches again tomorrow 🎄 it might be very early (!) but, after the hot dry summer we’ve had here, I’m totally ready for it. Time to imagine cooler weather and getting cosy inside. It is almost autumn after all 🍂

How the park is looking now, mid August. Saw a couple of puddles when I left home this morning so there must have been a little bit of rain overnight, hopefully some more soon!

Our weather station on the balcony recorded a high of 31oC today and it’s currently 26.6oC, compared to what was forecasted to be a 25oC day! It’s very humid, but still no rain. Inside is roasting. Definitely have spent more time out on the balcony this year than any other summer in the past!

Instagram algorithm thinks I’m interested in seeing content from parents of autistic children. Presumably because I’m autistic and engage with content from other autistic people. Problem is I don’t like it. I’m glad my parents didn’t do this. Imagine the world seeing you experiencing meltdowns etc.

It’s sweltering tonight! 30 degrees on our balcony in London at 11pm 🥵cheering myself up by admiring our beautiful orchid that seems to be thriving in this hot weather we’ve had this summer 💕

Scorched grass in London, same park one week on. Maybe we need more trees and less green space with this changing climate. In the meantime, hopefully some rain soon!

I remember as a child in the 90s, talk of climate change and evidenced by scientists. It’s hard to believe that decades on we haven’t done much at all and are now living in a very changing climate and experiencing the effects play out. Really frustrating that we could have done so much in that time.

Weight loss injections…it is so hard to be in recovery from an eating disorder when often it seems like you are surrounded by people using them and you’re seeing them work very effectively. Using every bit of strength I have to try and ignore the whole thing, but it’s very difficult!

Right now I’m seriously contemplating moving somewhere not as hot. It’s still 30 degrees here outside and the same inside. If I owned my home I’d definitely install air conditioning. Melting 🫠

We’ve managed to get the inside temp down to 25 degrees now after 4 days of less hot weather and all windows and balcony wide open when we’re at home. You have got to give them credit for building all those buildings so well to retain the heat. Only we now need them to be cool in the summer too.

Really hoping it starts to cool down soon as I can’t cope with 30 degrees inside the flat anymore. On the balcony it’s wonderful right now but inside feels like an oven. The heat has got to me now 😭

I really don’t understand people who don’t believe climate change. Why don’t they trust the science? Same could be said for vaccines too. I just don’t get it. There is valid evidence.

Here’s my annual post of how grateful I am to have a balcony in this hot weather! There is a gentle refreshing breeze, and it’s now feeling much more comfortable out here than inside the flat. Also admiring the beautiful balcony plants 💚

I’ve been feeling really fed up with my OCD lately and so I’ve gone back to what I learnt in CBT years ago, doing small experiments. Today marks 1 week of not taking photos of things switched off/closed/locked when I leave the house. Still checking but less and without that reassurance. Proud of me!

That there's no "autism look". Autistics are everywhere. Your workmate, your school mate, the cashier at the grocery store, the person serving you at the pub, your librarian, your doctor, your hairdresser, your best friend.. Anyone could be autistic. If either of your parents is autistic, well.. 💡😉

The autistic tendency to stay up late because: - nighttime is when the world finally slows down (quieter, fewer demands, less sensory input) - you’ve been randomly hyperfocusing - “do not perceive me” - SPECIAL INTERESTS! ❤️ - transitioning to bedtime can be hard - your circadian rhythm is chaos 🫠

Public autistic meltdowns are brutal. They feel sudden, but they’re usually the result of days or weeks of stress building up. By the time it happens, you’re already running on fumes, tired, overloaded, and stretched too far. It only takes one tiny trigger for everything to spill over. 1/3

I don’t romanticise autism. But I’m also done pretending the real problem is us. It’s the hostile environments, the absurd expectations, and the constant demand to be palatable.

I don’t understand why companies offer the ability to contact them via an online form and then don’t respond so you end up having to call them anyway, which is difficult for many. Currently on hold for a very long trying to speak to someone about a delivery that appears to have gone missing 🙁

You can be in a room full of people and still feel lonely And when you’re autistic, that feeling can be even louder But everything changes the moment you find your people - the ones who get you, celebrate you, and make the world feel a little less overwhelming ❤️

I know I sound like a broken record when it comes to our upstairs neighbours but I so wish housing had good soundproofing like some hotels. The whole time we were in Berlin I didn’t hear any noise from fellow guests but now it’s back to the usual noise from neighbours. How I wish that was different!

✨New research Language shapes how others see us. So, what do neurodivergent people think of the words “neurodiversity” & “neurodivergent”? - mixed views - important that it’s used correctly (it often isn’t!) - for some, it’s a safe umbrella term - for others, it can be too broad or add to stigma

For me, icebreaker activities really heighten anxiety. Trying to think of an interesting fact about myself while wondering what others might find interesting, trying to remember what someone has told me to repeat back to the rest of the group…usually I just want to run away and hide. #Autistic

Recovering from an eating disorder is very hard but especially in a society where diet talk seems so prevalent. When you’re developing a healthier relationship with food and exercise but constantly reminded about how many calories are in specific foods and discussions about diets/exercise dominate..

It’s strange to me that noise teams will deal with complaints about certain noises like DIY, parties, using some household appliances late at night but things like running around and banging and crashing from children playing late at night, no it’s regular household noise. It’s late and disruptive 😢
