YES! YES! YES! Every child DESERVES a Certified School Librarian in a funded school library!

Elementary school librarians are not state mandated in New York State either. I was lucky enough to attend a PreK-12 school with less than 200 students total and have a certified school librarian. Many rural school students aren’t afforded that opportunity.

In Upstate New York, rural districts can actually get away with not having a certified school librarian in their building because of state regulations. A school librarian only needs to be in the building for one period if you have less than 100 students in your secondary school.

one of the 'smaller' examples of US decline in my lifetime i think a lot about is that when i was in elementary school, in a small town in central kentucky, in the mid to late 90s, we not only had a staffed and stocked library, but a weekly library class that's... rare now. even in wealthy states.

my experiences with school libraries - not just in elementary school, but middle and high school - shaped a lot of who i am today and how i got here we're failing kids, not just during their childhood, but for their entire life, by providing less library opportunities than we had

It is educational malpractice to have a school without a certified school librarian & library program, no matter how you slice it. Go by cost: Libraries are the best return on investment in a school. Go by impact: libraries have the largest measurable, across academic, social, & mental health.

You can't, and shouldn't seek to, replace public schools or libraries with bookstores. You can't replace a public good with a private business, no matter how well-meaning or well-organized it may be.

I’ve seen some reviews from Instagram and TT, and many librarians who have it seem to need to replace the covers more often because they snag easily. They also have pretty pointy plastic corners that could scratch you pretty well. I don’t have personal experience, but those reviews look pretty solid

Not only does this feel like backtracking due to being called out, they have ZERO intention of changing their target market which is schools--specifically schools as there is a crisis in school librarianship. They are NOT an ally to librarians. The lack of us increases the sales.
