Councils should have staff who just go around and sort out minor problems they see. Bag of rubbish - collect it. Street sign a bit wonky - straighten it. Overgrown weeds - pull them. All those small jobs. They're the things that make a place better to live if they're resolved.

This is a dreadful argument from Burnham. Empirically false - almost 6m people were granted settled status; about 4m are currently resident. More importantly panders to racism/xenophobia, and directly contradicts argument made in his speech about migrant contributions.

It's already illegal to put flags up on highways and lampposts without permission. That's a national law, it just isn't often enforced because nobody's been doing this nationalist harassment grift before Birmingham City Council isn't saying you can't put Pride flags up on your home or business.

Because the others have accepted the injunction and agreed not to put any more flags up in Birmingham, the remaining people named in the High Court case are Ryan Bridge (multiple bails for various crimes), Ben Cullen (awaiting CSAM trial) and Billy Allison (awaiting trial for murder)

At this point I would honestly prefer that the UK authorities said nothing on this than they kept dribbling out cryptic clues like it's a murder mystery evening. "What if I told you one of them rang 999 himself?" "We've bailed them, but it's still Iran, what might that mean?" Not. Helpful.
