Very disappointing that both Apple and Google have renamed Lake Ontario on their maps. Time for an alternative navigation app?

We don't share our expertise with right-wing rags.
Dear Simon

Apologies for barging into your inbox like this but I'm a journalist with the Daily Telegraph and Ive been asked to write about the ongoing problems at the British Library. Partly it's about the staff discontent in light of the recent departure of Rebecca Lawrence and the strikes, but its also necessarily about the ongoing ramifications of the cyber attack. As someone who knows an awful lot more about IT systems in academic environments than I do, would you be willing to talk to me about what has happened at the BL, and what it means for the future of academic research in general? I realise its now Friday afternoon, but I'm around Monday for most of the day if you are willing and that time suits you. I'd be extremely grateful if so.

Many thanks and best wishes

RedactedHi Redacted,

Thanks for getting in touch. I'm a great person to talk to about this but I have no interest in talking to someone writing for the Daily Telegraph nor do I trust your paper to represent the story accurately.

Have a good weekend,

Simon

@gwynnefitz.bsky.social and Ben Fractenberg capture vignettes all day from the check-in at an ICE office in Manhattan.
2:41 p.m.: Four men are walked out in handcuffs by masked agents. One is Jaen, Ambar’s husband. Her 12-year-old daughter screams and runs after him.

Ambar wails in agony and collapses onto the sidewalk.

As the SUVs pull away Ambar leans over a nearby fence sobbing, “My love, my love,” she murmurs over and over again.

[photo of a woman on her hands and knees on the sidewalk, her face contorted in a grimace. The hand of another woman reaches down, touching her on her back.]

Nobody expects the Scarlet Crusade!
An image of three Scarlet Crusade members with large text above that reads “Nobody expects the Scarlet Crusade!” Each human Crusader is wearing the infamous white and red tabard with a red flame logo across the chest, with matching red plate armor, but unique helms. The Crusader in the middle is wearing a red wide-brimmed hat as he wags his finger. The Crusader to the left is wearing a leather cap with goggles. The Crusader to the right is wearing a red hood while clutching a scroll. A blurry view of the interior of a human building fills the background.
