A month out from Gwangan Beach Book Fair. I'll be there again selling used books along with Book'd Events (who isn't on bluesky). Expect to hear more about it in the future.
Poster for Gwangan Beach Book festival (in Korean) showing a cartoon person on a beach blanket reading a book while a cat sun bathes beside them. In the background is a cartoony suspension bridge and a red sun
Dates are 10.23 to 10.28.

Excellent essay about what seems to be an excellent book! Now I just need to get my grubby little hands on a copy!

What the hell does “NO HANDS JUST ENJOY” mean? What is a “hands-free” “boiling seafood” experience? Is this what they do in Louisiana?
A sign board for a restaurant called Show Me The Crab in Myeongdong, Seoul. There is an Al image of a seafood boil along with the slogan “no hands just enjoy”.

Friday Morning Insomnia Cinema Club - The Tournament. I’m a real sucker for assassin on assassin action, plus it has a young Andy Nyman and a weatherbeaten Robert Carlyle. However, Liam Cunningham’s cheesy American accent is a little off-putting.

Off to Suwon today to do five different shortish (20 to 40 mins) performances, none of which I have done before. Always a fun challenge. Except the singing and dancing. That part is much less fun…

Bought I Who Have Never Known Men yesterday, finished it this afternoon. Absolutely brilliant. Very much worth a read. And now I can’t wait to get my hands on Orlanda.

As a new Harry Potter trailer makes the rounds, it bears repeating that there’s no way to watch this show without supporting J.K. Rowling’s bigotry and the structural violence she’s inflicting on the trans community.

Saturday Early Morning Cinema Club - Spider-Man: Brand New Day. I have actually come to a real cinema for the first time in almost a year. Hoping to make this a more regular thing. Also hoping Tom Holland doesn’t disappoint.

One year ago today my wife collapsed from a heart attack and never recovered. The past months have felt so long at times, but now I have arrived here it feels like such a short time ago. She died two days later, but today is the anniversary of the last time we ever looked into each other’s eyes.

Monday afternoon cinema club- Con Air. Finally got my hands on a Japanese blu ray for a reasonable price and now I can enjoy Nicolas Cage’s terrible haircut in full HD. One of the greatest and stupidest action movies of the 1990s, made even better by Malkovitch and Buscemi.

Today marks one year since Arthur died. I miss the little fellow a lot and so does his sister. This anniversary also marks the week running up to the death of my wife, so it’s going to be a fun August! Hug your cats close, my friends. And if they complain, hug them again and give them a churu.

Getting a sense of deja vu as my kitchen floor starts getting soaked by rising water, just like last summer... One of the most physical and oddly visceral reminders of my wife's final few weeks on this planet. It's going to be a strange and sad few weeks.

I haven't had a drink of alcohol in almost ten months. Last night I dreamt I got drunk for the first time since then. A distinctly odd experience that was paired with some sort of murder mystery dreamscape... Not quite sure what my body and brain are trying to tell me today.

Just finished Tiptoe and I think it’s an astonishing piece of television that captures so much of what is wrong with the world right now. It’s so good I can almost forgive Mr. Davies for his bungling of Doctor Who.

Hey, stop doom scrolling, it’ll solve nothing. Why not instead grab yourself a BASIC emulator, download Usborne’s 1984 Weird Computer Games book & spend the afternoon making A WEIRD GAME, I mean that won’t solve anything too but it’s still a better use of your time drive.google.com/file/d/0Bxv0...

Saturday Afternoon Cinema Club - Scandal. One of John Hurt’s best performances and Joanne Whalley is also excellent. However it’s not just those two stars who deserve attention, looking at the box, it seems Local Area Network McKellen and Bridget Fond are also appearing…

Last night saw the opening of the Korea National Opera's production of Peter Grimes. I've been lucky enough to spend the past two months working with these brilliant singers as their diction coach and I'm so proud of each and every one of them.
The cast along with the creative team of Peter Grimes are lined up on stage at the Seoul Arts Center Opera House, taking their final bow.

I just encountered the word “chthonic” (for the first time) and now you did too. If you know it, take a moment to appreciate it. If you don’t know it, go and look it up. It is a good word to know. I’m not sure if I will ever use it, but I’m glad it exists and I’m glad I read it today.
