I'm not letting AI horseshit maneuver me into a defensive position with my writing. I write like I write. I love emdashes. I keep using emdashes. Whatever we write, AI will take and copy it -- all you can do is keep writing the best shit you can write in the form you want it to take, and fuck it.

I think Brad Lander made a smart distinction between unity and solidarity, and offered a good marching order for Democrats all across the spectrum, in his victory speech last night: "Unity means we already agree. Solidarity means we do the work to build bridges even across significant differences."

Air pollution is often invisible, but its impacts are not.   We’re launching a photo call to document its sources, impacts & solutions bringing cleaner air to communities globally.   Selected entries will be featured for the Int'l Day of Clean Air.   📸 Submit your photos: bit.ly/4xoqcYU

This is amazing and heartening to read. I'd appreciate insights on how you implement a collaborative grading model if you get around to that thread. I teach a large (~250) introductory environmental health class, and we've been noodling with alternative assessment and ungrading.

Sighs - I am reading my student evaluation* of instruction. One student doesn't like how I set up the course and writes a whole essay about requiring rubrics from me. I provided rubrics, in 3 places, and spent class time - twice - on the rubric. And this reminds me why I really dislike the SEI.

CARB is rolling out a $1B Medium and Heavy duty ZEV rebate funded by the LCFS. This update is my most proud accomplishment from my time in the program and I am so glad it stuck. Will it be quickly run out of $? Absolutely and that would be success. content.govdelivery.com/accounts/CAR...

This month, five Indian states have hosted or will host regional elections. On the ground, heat wave warnings have reshaped campaigns. Across states, parties adjusted schedules, doctors prepared for a surge in heat-related illness, and workers described mounting difficulty operating outdoors.

A side effect of the unnecessary and unfortunate US action is further destabilizing already tenuous cleaner energy transitions for those who are not easily able to adapt to price shocks and inaccessibility/unavailability of fuel.

Pretty good story! It leaves out the many millions of households who rely on LPG as a cooking fuel, and who already had precarious access to these cleaner cooking fuels.

I've wondered if we're living through a different sort of epistemic closure: not one of the right cocooning itself in participatory nonsense, but rather one of billionaires grown confident that closing on—i.e., purchasing—the means of knowledge production will let them dictate what's real or true.

Abolish ICE Before They Kill Again, Impeach Trump & Noem Before They Incite More Murder
Renee Nicole Good was a 37-year-old award-winning poet, a mother of a six-year-old, and a wife who had recently moved to Minneapolis. That all ended yesterday when a masked ICE agent murdered her in broad daylight, shooting her multiple times at close range in the head. She had stuffed animal toys in the glove box of her SUV that rammed into another car after she’d been killed for no reason at all.

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die. Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

This amidst massive personnel cuts at NIOSH, whose total budget of $340 million ($2.20 per worker) provided some $200 billion in benefit. All presaging a future of underpaid, unsafe work.
