An amazingly stark example of how the US economy has broken: Zaslav clears nearly a *billion* dollars amid a CEO tenure where he made basically anything he touched worse, harmed multiple prestigious brands, led huge layoffs—but delivered a corrupt merger for shareholders. variety.com/2026/tv/news...

Rubio is petulantly annoyed because he gave this big speech in Athens about The Future of Western Civilization -- and coincidentally, on the very same day, his ambassador to Greece gets caught soliciting a donor to pay off her $100,000 credit-card bill.

talked about this before and again, i'm speaking as a third generation journeyman trades worker, but working in trades is not something that any of the people who write these pieces, or honestly most of you, respect at all. It's perceived as something you do when all the "good" options are gone.

Tweet from @Pontifex

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.Episode of Star Trek TNG: where Data, about to play a violin, tells Picard that he won't enjoy his performance because his music lacks soul, he is just perfectly copying the great musicians who played this tune before.

NEW: According to a bombshell report in the New York Times, Anthropic co-founder Chris Olah threatened to walk out of Pope Leo XIV's Al encyclical launch in May because the pope rejected the idea that machines can be conscious.
Olah's team then privately lobbied the pope's advisers "to take the possibility of model consciousness seriously." Pope Leo XIV held firm.
For months, Anthropic has wined and dined theologians and religious scholars under nondisclosure agreements, hoping they would bless the idea that Claude has moral standing.

Wage growth just keeps slowing. And yes, wages are rising slower than prices, and no, that's not how economic growth is meant to work.
Line chart titled "Nominal wage growth is slowing" showing year-over-year growth in average hourly earnings of private-sector workers. Wage growth has declined steadily from a peak of 5.9% in early 2022 to 3.0% in September 2026, the slowest rate in the series. This nearly 3 percentage point drop over four and a half years indicates significantly cooler labor market conditions, with the deceleration accelerating in recent months as growth fell from the 3.7-3.9% range in 2025 to the low 3% range currently.
