I'm more than 15 years into games media and this current era is easily the most frustrating period I've ever seen. I was laid from CNET in 2022, and I've been full-time freelance out of necessity due to the terrible job market. I've found my niche and steady work, but not many others like me can.

Going to add onto this: We don't have a huge budget at MMORPG, but I've tried to make it a space many of my more talented peers can find somewhere to file a story or take on an opp while looking for broader work. It's led to, what I think is at least, one of the most diverse writing teams in games.

I’ve heard about how influencers are doing shit like this all the time. Some will blacklist those that do it, but also, sometimes studios don’t want to burn that bridge if that influencer has a large enough audience. Another massive problem with having content creators take up room from journals.

-did some experiments, modified our floodlights, hopefully can slow mold down w/it

Final two cents on the PMG x Kotick story: It is paramount that you support the journalism you want to see in the world. Outlets like PMG continue to raise the bar, BUT if you want even more of that probing journalism you have to give reporters the runway and financial backing to produce it.
