The earthquake yesterday in Colombia and the fires last weekend in BC are breaking my heart. I have little to do to help. Except for two things: donate blood and donate money. You can do that too! Here is some info on how to help in Colombia and in Canada 👇

Canada currently exports raw copper from BC mines overseas for processing, revealing a critical missing piece in our copper supply chain. Building a smelter on home soil would capture that value in Canada, creating supply chain resilience and reducing reliance on foreign processing.

The critical minerals story goes well beyond mining: It’s about competitive, inclusive value chains. It’s about First Nations’ rights, participation, and ownership. And it’s about developing and connecting major projects differently. 1/9

Hey #yyc there is a new @ucalgary.bsky.social ERTHx talk & you are all invited! Venus as a Potentially Habitable Planet by Dr. Seager "While Venus’ surface is extremely hot, the planet’s upper atmosphere may offer conditions that could support complex chemistry and potentially life. Details below
Poster inviting for a talk. Blue night sky background, with the logos of the University of Calgary Faculty of Science and the University of Calgary Alumni at the top.
The body of the poster starts with the ERTHX series and the title of the talk: Venus as a potentially habitable planet.
Text with details follows: Scientists have long wondered whether life could exist not on Venus's scorching surface, but in its cooler cloud layers 48-660 km above the planet - despite their harsh sulfuric acid composition. New lab-based experiments show some biomolecules can remain stable there, opening possibilities for life and future exploration. Join us to discover what this could mean.
