At the North Pole, below the ice and 4,200 meters of water, you’ll find the seafloor where sediment has been deposited for over 56 million years.

Science takes our experts to some remarkable places. 🚢 Last week, NRCan researchers from the Geological Survey of Canada were aboard the Canadian Coast Guard Ship Amundsen off the coast of Makkovik in Labrador. There, they were collecting important information on the ocean and its seafloor!

While satellite imagery can show us remote regions and track surface changes over time, it can't reveal what's happening underwater. In March, scientists from NRCan mapped Antarctica’s seabed using a multibeam echosounder to measure glacial retreat.
