Like, his literal followup to my response was "you are dodging the question because there are none in Palestine because rahhh Muslims evil", because he couldn't even bother reading ANYTHING about the place he was talking about. Which, sounds familiar somehow

The real infuriating part of that crowd is how often they expose their ignorance and straight up don't care. One dipshit tried to "gotcha" me by asking how many Jews and Christians are "allowed" in Palestine. When I replied the IDF bombed Christian churches during mass, he said I dodged the question

Yeah, I know he's given a few pull quotes on some projects, which is why I know the gripes about the industry that get trotted out for clickbait are directed at the industry rather than every single artist. Still, I don't fault you pointing out how big him boosting anyone can be.

I'm kind of suspecting the Rolling Stone article is astroturfing off of the typical culture war bullshit. It has that air of aggrieved entitlement the right loves deploying. "How dare you not listen to me" becoming "how dare you never even hear of me". Maybe that's giving the author too much credit

I usually respond to people telling me they haven't heard a song I like is to...recommend it? Am I doing life wrong that my instinct isn't publishing screeds in a nationally-distributed magazine about how other people not being aware of the same stuff as me is a crime against me?

My favorite band is Murder by Death. Their songs have been played in TV shows that were popular before streaming hit. Multiple albums of theirs were crowdfunded in record-breaking numbers. I've only met 2 other people who knew them without me introducing them. One of them introduced the band to me.

I find myself fascinated by this apparent phenomenon of people projecting their own insecurities and...disdain?...snobbery?...onto others for something as innocuous as "I have never heard this song." Just a bizarre snapshot into where this country is right now

I don't want to read too much into Onslaught getting disappeared real quick from theaters, but, like...the studio that made a wet nothing like Civil War into a months long discourse that became a box office hit couldn't do anything with an actual provocative movie? Doesn't add up

Today, I wrote about Sian Leah Beilock's pro-AI piece in the Atlantic. It is an odd piece. At nearly every step of her arguments, Beilock swerves pretty wildly, to the point where I can only conclude that she has been an active LLM user for some time now. Link in replies.
Before we continue with her piece, let’s just try to flesh out her analogy as she’s laid it out thus far.

Researched anxiety: “I’m going to do bad on this math test.”
Present anxiety: “AI will prevent me from getting a good job.”
Researched solution: “Take the math test.”
Present solution: _____________

What’s the thing that students are actually anxious about? What’s the verb that they’re worried about?

Getting a job! They are worried about the negative effects AI is going to have on their careers! The present solution, then, would be something like “applying to jobs.” If these situations are actually parallel, they work like this:

Students worry about the math test—then take the test and see that their fears weren’t justified.
Students worry about the job market—then apply to jobs and see that their fears weren’t justified.

Except Beilock has already admitted that their fears are justified! So what does she suggest instead? USE MORE AI! Get comfortable with the technology, and with all technology! Draconian mandates and screenless classes can’t be the only way that colleges deal with AI. If universities hope to remain relevant in a world shaped by artificial intelligence, they should strive to guide students to understand and use these tools productively.

In my research of math anxiety, we found that the best cure was practicing math. This points to a way forward. When we supply students with the space to thoughtfully explore and engage with these tools, we can help ensure that they graduate into an AI-enabled workforce with more confidence and competence than fear”2

This is absolutely buck-wild. “AI” and “Math” are not parallel in her analogy. Students are not worried that they don’t know how to use AI, because they all already use it, all of the time. AI is not the object of their anxiety (which is actually “not having a job” or “economic conditions getting much, much worse”), but rather the cause of their anxiety. Suggesting that the solution is to use more AI is like suggesting to a student who thinks “oh no, I’m not certain if I studied enough for this test!” that they should get over this anxiety by spending more time not studying.

Viewing Carnival of Souls and Messiah of Evil as a double feature really did rewrite my brain chemistry. The pair are so in sync, perfect synergy and ghoulish symphony. Zombie apocalypses as the relentless void where the highway runs out, gas station signs against jet black. Goddamned Americana.

So true — from Hulk #1:
Tweet by "The Persian Jewess":

Mark Ruffalo became famous playing the Hulk - a character created by two Jewish men to symbolize the struggle for Israel’s survival.

Now he’s using that fame to spread hatred against Jews and Israel.

Absolute scum.

"Paramount slams Mark Ruffalo's latest merger attack as "antisemitic."

"Words like ‘genocide’ and ‘apartheid,’ applied to a corporate transaction, aren’t just wrong — they’re a bridge too far, and they cheapen the very real suffering those words are meant to describe. This doesn’t deserve a response in kind — and to be clear, we don’t tolerate prejudice of any kind, against anyone.”

“This brings us to a moment to lower the temperature, not raise it. We’d rather build than further engage in such rhetoric. This simply exposes the true motivation of some who have advocated opposition to this transaction. On the other hand, our commitment to great content is matched by our commitment to acceptance – to every story, every storyteller, and no blacklists, no exceptions, for anyone.”

Earlier today, Ruffalo shared a video of Oracle’s executive vice chair Safra Catz boasting about the company’s efforts to "advance the agenda for the Israeli military" by making "really profoundly scary technology" available to them. He slammed the Ellison family's ties to Israel and their role in “what we now have come to see as a genocide” in Gaza, adding: "This is the company that Larry Ellison is using to fund his son David’s Warner Bros acquisition."
