I'm confused. Has there ever been a military without supply lines that wins the war?

This is not the kind of power one country should have.

Canadians know how it feels to be hit by U.S. tariffs. But Canada hasn't been subjected to Washington's more aggressive tactics such as trade sanctions and asset freezes.

Or rather, most Canadians haven't.

Judge Kimberly Prost, a Canadian jurist who serves on the International Criminal Court, is the exception. She found her credit cards cancelled, her Google accounts closed and was effectively "de-banked" after U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio declared the court "an instrument for lawfare against the United States and our close ally Israel."

The most drastic tool a U.S. president could use might amount to a "kill switch" on a large part of Canadian commerce, says Vass Bednar, managing director of the Canadian Shield Institute think-tank.

"If Visa or Mastercard were to be compelled by the Trump administration to turn off our access or geographically restrict service so that the province of Ontario just can't process transactions anymore, it would effectively halt a huge part of our economy," Bednar said.v

Visa and Mastercard are central to the U.S. government's ability to shut down other countries' economies, handling about $32 trillion US of transactions annually — 90 per cent of all card transactions outside China.

In Britain, where Visa and Mastercard control about 95 per cent of card transactions, banks are co-operating with the government to create DeliveryCo, a system that can handle payments if the credit card companies ever hit the kill switch.

While women are discussing the Cornell 7 and campus sexual assault , we also got the story of Slutcon which is apparently a work related thing? I don't know anything anymore.

This is so stupid. I pay almost $1300 for insurance through the ACA. And I will admit that I'm not as great at going to the doctor as I should be. The only fraud here is the cost of insurance.

I'm reading a book about the neuroscience of navigation and the author discussed how our brain oriented us in space. He also discusses how various situations affect our ability to do this including our reliance on GPS. Dark and Magical Spaces by Christopher Kemp. It's a fascinating read.

Finally read the article about the Cornell gang rape and feeling horrified, defeated, and furious. I'm grateful that media is (finally) covering some of the sexual assault stories out there. At the same time there have been so many stories over the past couple years and each one creates a scar.

Please know that this is one of my few legitimate areas of actual, high-level professional expertise: Kicking the healthiest people off of a health insurance program will bankrupt it. Not 'could;' not 'might,' not 'probably," but absolutely will, with mathematical certainty.

I have long been opposed to bread makers because I was indoctrinated in the European crusty bread method of baking in my early adult years. However ... Zojirushi makes a bread maker? 🤔 How bad can it be when their rice makers make the magical perfect bowl of rice?

Stories like this have, for ages, treated men's desire to harm women as a sort of background noise, a weather we just normalize and accept and try to work around. Feminism is among other things a process of denormalization.

The GOP has the majority. The only way the 'liberal Marxist " Democrats would have is if Mike believes there are a large number of Republicans that will be voting with the Democrats. Not in a compromise but following their lead.

In the US, we stockpile processed cheese. As of last year (the most recent news article I could find on the subject) we have 635 kg of government cheese stored in caves across 35 states. In the 70s and 80s, government cheese was given to welfare beneficiaries in addition to their welfare benefits.

When we biked through Sicily, we saw flowers growing under solar panels with bee hives at the end of each row, facing the road. Evapotranspiration from plants keeps PV panels cooler, improving their efficiency. Panels reduce evaporation, requiring less water to keep plants alive. It’s a win-win

One of the smarter things I did this past winter was buy two aerogarden units to grow lettuce in my kitchen in response to the government's food safety inspection cutbacks. I am grateful to still be eating fresh greens and am wondering If I should expand the garden to tomatoes and strawberries.
