I noted that Illinois (along with several other states) has established an in person voting program. That's it. 🤷‍♀️

I liked that they closed Pennsylvania Ave down so that protests could happen right there in front of the White House. You could fill the street with people!

Lafayette Square isn't "a historic protest site." It's a fucking park. And it's packed on nice days. Calling it a protest site is White House framing. They're closing a popular public park to create a presidential palace Saddam Hussein would love.

I believe most incarcerated people are in the county jail system - approx 70% are awaiting trial. I think that's about 400-500,000 people. Misdemeanor convictions longer than one year may be served in state or federal prisons. I don't have a percentage on that population.

This is a reasonable concern. It's an argument for prison reform. It's not an argument to deny the franchise. We acknowledge the right and then use the tools we have to ensure that the right is upheld. The rights come first.

?? Basic election fact: not all people who are incarcerated lose their voting rights. In all three locations, people serving felony convictions cannot vote. People serving non felony convictions can vote.

Alex Dickson @adicksondc.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Several states have in-person voting in prisons already. Maybe we should check to see if there are the problems you imagine.
170
Alex Dickson @adicksondc.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
This isn't a problem yet to solve because we currently have prisoners in jails with the right to vote. Most vote absentee but some prisons have in-person voting within the prisons (see Colorado, Illinois, and Los Angeles). We build on what works.

Yes, I understand the law exists. Nonetheless, the hospital charged specifically for the rape kit. As a line item in the hospital bill. Her insurance paid then agreed to pay for about a third of it.

This is not the kind of power one country should have.
Canadians know how it feels to be hit by U.S. tariffs. But Canada hasn't been subjected to Washington's more aggressive tactics such as trade sanctions and asset freezes.

Or rather, most Canadians haven't.

Judge Kimberly Prost, a Canadian jurist who serves on the International Criminal Court, is the exception. She found her credit cards cancelled, her Google accounts closed and was effectively "de-banked" after U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio declared the court "an instrument for lawfare against the United States and our close ally Israel."The most drastic tool a U.S. president could use might amount to a "kill switch" on a large part of Canadian commerce, says Vass Bednar, managing director of the Canadian Shield Institute think-tank.

"If Visa or Mastercard were to be compelled by the Trump administration to turn off our access or geographically restrict service so that the province of Ontario just can't process transactions anymore, it would effectively halt a huge part of our economy," Bednar said.vVisa and Mastercard are central to the U.S. government's ability to shut down other countries' economies, handling about $32 trillion US of transactions annually — 90 per cent of all card transactions outside China.

In Britain, where Visa and Mastercard control about 95 per cent of card transactions, banks are co-operating with the government to create DeliveryCo, a system that can handle payments if the credit card companies ever hit the kill switch.

Many small businesses use ICHRA or QSHERA to reimburse employees for health insurance purchased through the ACA. It's one of the easiest ways for a small business to cover health insurance and is now built into employee benefit programs nationwide.

Alex Dickson @adicksondc.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
They call it Obamacare because not all Americans understand that their ACA plan is Obamacare. Implying Obamacare is a free handout and has worked in the past. The question is, will it still work today?
110
Alex Dickson @adicksondc.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
This is so stupid. I pay almost $1300 for insurance through the ACA. And I will admit that I'm not as great at going to the doctor as I should be. The only fraud here is the cost of insurance.
