Boulder's library district is cutting 20% of its staff. How did it get here?
Less than four years after voters created the library district with the promise of stable funding, declining property tax revenue and rising costs have forced a reversal.

The system that many of you on here are upholding and also pretending that people actually use does not exist. Most people do not voluntarily engage the U.S. criminal punishment system in general. So the question should be: what else should be on offer? That's not the question asked online.

I may have peaked with my slide design here
The four galilean satellites lined up to scale by size, from Ganymede, the largest, on the left to Europa, the smallest, on the right. They are lined up so that they overlap slightly. This is derived from a lovely image from the planetary society. In front of the satellites is the text: Galilean Satellites. It is, of course, in hot pink barbie font.

Crater Fact Friday ☄️ DID YOU KNOW ☄️ that Meteor Crater in Arizona is one of the best-preserved impact craters on Earth? During the 1960s and 1970s, NASA astronauts trained in the crater to prepare for the Apollo missions to the Moon, and ongoing field training for astronauts continues to this day.
Meteor Crater, Arizona in plan view. The crater is ~1 km across and slightly polygonal. Layers of exposed limestone and sandstone are visible just beneath the crater rim, as are large stone blocks excavated by the impact. Satellite view of Rubaya in 2010: a patchwork of small green and brown farm fields on rolling hills, with a winding road, a small village, and only a tiny patch of exposed soil at lower right.Satellite view of Rubaya, DR Congo, in 2025: a large bare, orange-and-tan scar of open-pit mining cuts through green hills, with eroded gullies radiating outward and a village at upper left.

Saturn: July 2, 2014 - From Val Klavans (valklavans.bsky.social) - flic.kr/p/nWLXBi
This is a true color view of Saturn. Saturn's north polar hexagon stands out prominently while the rings encircle the planet.

This composite is made of images that were taken by Cassini's camera system, the Imaging Science Subsystem (ISS) on July 02, 2014 and received on Earth July 03, 2014. The camera was pointing toward SATURN at approximately 1,815,382 miles (2,921,574 kilometers) away, and the images were taken using the red, green, and blue filters.

Working on my Mars slides for class, which means it's time to bring back my favorite slide I've ever made:
The "we're so back/it's so over meme" that has been edited so the x-axis is time from 1960 through 2040. The plot oscillates semi-sinusoidally between positive (we're so back) and negative (it's so over). It's labeled Mars Exploration Timeline.

The start of the timeline is small oscillations close to zero. These are labeled: first Soviet attempts (note: none of the Soviet attempts worked but they sure tried). The steep positive peak next to it, we're back, is labeled Viking landers. Then a massive negative, it's so over, is labeled: everyone crashes in the 90s. Look up Mars exploration to learn more about this. Then an even larger positive spike, we're so back, is for Curiosity and the other Mars rovers. Then a positive/negative combined spike is labeled Mars 2020 (for various reasons). Then a last negative, it's over (real) is labeled Mars Sample Return. This is accurate.
