You can turn the skeleton key of "what motivates AI people" by understanding that AI people like the social cachet of having "done" things but don't like the actual "doing" of them.

For me, a fundamentally annoying aspect of working for OpenAI would be constantly having to say the name “ChatGPT.” It’s probably the dumbest name for a piece of software imaginable

The Curse of Fenric, the last truly great Doctor Who story from the 20th century era. And it made me a fan for life
You want to know the first media that scared the crap out of me as a child? These zombie vampires from the future that rose out of the fog-ridden seas of coastal England to devour humanity in The Curse of Fenric, one of the greatest Doctor Who stories of all time. Here, Captain Sorin uses the psychic field generated by his faith in the communist revolution to hold the zombies at bay while he walks through them

Having worked with AI tools in a lot of my jobs & contracts over the last few years, I find it has a decent usefulness when applied well, but it isn't worth more than a trillion dollars in investment. If that's what it takes to bring the tech to its current level, we could be better off without it

Could a lot of this over-investment come from widespread AGI myths among Silicon Valley leadership? Yudkowsky’s Basilisk scenario seems ridiculous to most people, but it also seems he takes a lot of meetings regularly with very influential people

68% of voters want the US to take ambitious action on climate change!
Respondents were asked to choose between two statements related to the U.S.’s role in global climate leadership, with a bipartisan majority (68%) selecting the following statement: “The United States should take ambitious action to address climate change, even if other countries do not. We should lead the world on this issue and set the example for other countries to follow suit.”

In contrast, just 25% of voters prefer the following statement: “If other countries do not take action to address climate change, the United States should not either. It is not fair for us to act while other countries contributing to the problem are sitting still.”

Despite political polarization reaching a historic high in recent years, Americans aren’t divided on ensuring clean air and water for every community. As the U.S. celebrates Earth Day, many Americans say the holiday holds personal importance and want the U.S. to prioritize clean air and water for all and take ambitious action on climate change.
