Talked with a few folks inside of AI labs (OpenAI, Anthropic) about what they think of the future of software engineering. The “closer” to shipping production code engineers are, the less they believe software engineering will be “solved” fully by AI. The opposite true as well

If you want to make me more productive, give me a tool that does simple things really well and reliably. That's valuable. I'd pay for that. I don't have a use for a tool that does complex things badly. Beyond gimmicks, that's not useful and I'd never pay for it. Yet... Tech CEOs don't get this.

One thing that AI evangelists seem to assume, particularly legal AI evangelists assume, is that the thinking and analysis is quick, and the writing is just tedious busywork that slows us down. But the writing IS the thinking and analysis. You work out the thinking and analysis by writing it down.
