My toe dip into the world of #meshcore has been interesting I've decided that the huge +12dbi gain antenna has too narrow a pattern for my needs, it's like a super concentrated torch beam I'm going to change it for a +4dbi with a pattern more like a lantern This pic shows roughly what I mean

Well it seems there's plenty of other preppers out there 🙂 The old heltec V2 that I'm currently running #meshcore firmware on is being replaced with a newer v4 very soon With the new antenna & new radio I should see a big increase in direct neighbours The alternative comms are nearly in place 🙂

Strawberry runners have also been pinned down & potted They'll be transferred to the allotment next season I need to 3d print a load more pins as I've run out already 😶 I've not touched the ones at the allotment, I reckon, in total, there's about 150 runners to pot on 😶😶😶😶

The allotment tunnel had a bit of a clear out I removed the courgette plants, they started with mildew, it always happens this time of year The tomatoes are still producing, I reckon 3 more weeks max I'm making more Strattu with this lot of tomatoes🙂

I finally got organised enough to add some lighting to the allotment shed It was a dark place before, now you can actually see to make a cup of tea! It's made from a proper Finnish sauna with super thick walls Very solid 🙂

Yeah.. the fridge freezer, after 23 years it has finally died 😭 I could mess around with replacing PCBs and fans etc in the hope it sorts it, but modern ones are so much more energy efficient So out with the old & in with the new In the mean time I've added some temp fans to limp it along

The IBC is fully plumbed in, there's about 28m2 of roof to feed into this IBC I just need to get a nylon filter sock to remove the big bits 🙂

A quick update on "project rain runoff" I've put the IBC in place (it had to be manhandled over my neighbours fence) What's not shown in this picture are the two downpipes that are feeding into the top of the IBC nor the overflow that feeds back into the drain This should hold 1000ltrs 🙂

I'm off next week, I will be spending some of the time adding an IBC water container to the guttering of the shed It'll hold about 900ltrs, we've already got 4 x 200ltr water buts, so this will double the capacity Water for the garden, but also available for any emergency - always prepping :-)

The results of yesterday's operation Strattu.. It's a tomato fruit leather that I'll put into clan jars and cover with olive oil, it should last about a year in the fridge. The flavour is very intense & perfect to add to any dish, the taste of sunshine 🙂

Today.. I've a load of tomatoes from the poly tunnel so I'm going to attempt to make Strattu For authenticity I need days of really strong Sicilian sunshine, but without that I'm going to use a dehydrator I'll let you know how it goes

Project "lazy allotment" is coming along nicely I've installed the 4g router & raspberry pi mqtt/ZigBee coordinator The ZigBee network can be seen in the tunnel, which really pleases me The pi & router use hardly any power & the 100ah battery isn't being touched overnight 😶

Today is the big test of the ashp cooling I switched it on at 13:40pm I've closed all the doors & windows The kitchen has fan assisted plinth heaters so they're working really well in bringing the temp down, the rest of the house is slower but still noticeable when you step outside

Well.. £15 spent on a 4.7k resistor wrapped up in a Vaillant sticker has enabled cooling on my ashp 🙂 That's another reason to switch over from gas - NB if you're thinking of ashp & you want cooling, make sure you ask if it's capable as not all are, e.g. Vaillant are but ideal heating are not

I've just realised.. If the UK summers carry on being as warm as they are, then there's a good chance that the UK can start producing its own strattu 😶 This will be the only benefit from the burning summer heat we're suffering, we can enjoy very flavoursome pasta dishes as we char to a crisp

Our ashp has been in place for just over 2 years, it's worked great during both winters... And last week I found out that it actually works in reverse, so can cool as well as heat 😶 It needs a special key* to enable this in the menu The part is on its way to me *A 4.7k ohm resistor

I went down the route of covering the west facing, & some of the south facing windows with reflective external film It made a significant difference to the temp of the glass & transmission of IR/UV energy into the rooms We'll see how long it lasts 🙂

The cherries are already ripe 😬 Last year was brilliant for cherries and this year is beating last year, the early heat, lack of storms to damage the blossom and this latest heat wave have produced bumper crops I'd still rather have no heat waves though

Best.. Investment... Ever... Portable split air con 😍 There's now a room in the house where we can sell shelter from the heat, last night's sleep was wonderful Normally the bedroom gets too hot to sleep, something like 26-27c in temps like today, last night was a lovely 19c all night

It's a bit of a mess still but the battery is starting to take up the tech power load So far there's a mini pc,a 16 port gigabyte switch, a 2.5gb switch with a power hungry 10g SPF, a POE switch powering 3 WiFi APs, and a few other little misc devices So far that's 1kw a day removed 🙂

We're nearly there with the DC distribution board, I'm going to mount it to the wall tomorrow evening if I get a chance Then I've got to create the power leads for all the various little computers & swap them over.. Fingers crossed for no magic smoke 😶 Ps. I've tested the voltage outputs already

There are four 12v voltage converters, a fuse box, a junction box with a big red switch and coloured terminal blocks with each colour signifying a different voltage.

The board has loads of stickers showing the various voltages.
