I read this article & am of two minds. 1) I don’t agree with Respectability Politics. 2) I do agree with ensuring that increasingly insular COVID era kids are prepared to exist in professional settings. I think the Respectability thing is getting conflated with this. Which is about employment.

UC Davis will no longer pay the difference so that GRFP recipients earn the same as other students. So mid-PhD students will lose nearly 25% of salary & new students will make less than their peers. Apply for the GRFP, it’s a wonderful help to your career. Just don’t come here if you get one.
