You can't get anyone in political media to say it plainly, but GOP strategy for several decades now has been built around the fact that its core goals/policies are *wildly unpopular*. Everything depends on a) polluting the information environment, b) cementing unfair structural advantages, & c) $$$.

🚆 New from Green Line Soccer 🚆 It's been a bit since I could really dig into a Spirit game, and recent games have surfaced multiple, intersecting problems. What the Spirit really miss without Leicy Santos, why the solutions haven't worked (yet?), and how they've become a more predictable team:

Why are dead malls a thing? Why do they sit blighted for so long? And why can you still walk around inside them? It's more complicated than you might think. In my latest blog post, I explain the private thicket of rules and constraints blocking redevelopment: mnolangray.substack.com/p/why-are-de...

We should be proud to pay taxes, billionaires should pay equal taxes, tax money should help all who pay them, & electeds should get their shit together & engage in messaging to let people know all the good their taxes accomplish. Taxes are our investment in our society, not a political plaything.

A positive 2025 trend: safer DC streets. In our first year enforcing the STEER Act against dangerous out-of-state drivers, DC traffic deaths dropped by 52% in 2025 — a 13-year low. Alongside DDOT, MPD, DMV, and DPW, we are making our streets safer for all. We will build on this progress in 2026.
Graph showing traffic fatalities in DC broken down by year, with a sharp decline from 52 traffic fatalities in 2023 and 2024 to 25 traffic fatalities in 2025.

As usual, the only element of this WaPo editorial worth reading is the AI summary of reader comments: www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...
The conversation explores strong criticism of the opinion piece, which is perceived as supportive of Trump's actions in Venezuela. Participants express outrage over what they see as an illegal and unconstitutional act of invading a sovereign country and kidnapping its leader. Many comments highlight the lack of congressional approval and the violation of international law, drawing parallels to past U.S. regime changes and expressing concern over the potential consequences. There is a recurring theme of disappointment and disillusionment with the Washington Post for publishing the piece, with some readers threatening to cancel their subscriptions. The discussion also touches on the perceived motivations behind the action, such as control over Venezuelan oil, and the broader implications for U.S. foreign policy and democracy.
