If I'm understanding this correctly, it seems the cops looked at the reporting and decided they could discern what made it possible for the reporters to discover their perfidy, and that they could effectively use that information to better cover up their secrets. Only to be discovered doing it.

I get it's funny how much instant misinfo there was about a shooting at a gathering of journalists. But this is completely normal. I have seen people who had a 9mm pistol pulled on them say the shooter had an AR-15. I have folks cry "shots fired" when none were and then ignore gunfire a block away.
