I'm not convinced the #Mariners need to transform their starting lineup this offseason. I'd start with the bench and depth. So far in 2026, they have given 924 PAs to players who posted a negative fWAR. 924 PAs to players who collectively posted a 53 wRC+ and offered negative value on defense.

Hunter Goodman could also be a more proven (and expensive) target to get from the Rockies. RH power bat C, who you'd try to play essentially everyday. He's logged some big league innings at 1B and OF, so you could get creative pairing him with Cal.

As for a trade partner, what about Colorado? Their rotation and middle IF are very poor. They have young players and nearly ready prospects who match Seattle's needs: e.g., RH 3B Kyle Karros, RH OF/1B Charlie Condon. I assume they'd like Miller, Arroyo, Becker, & maybe Rodden or Bliss?

Early #Mariners offseason musings: Of the free agents, I wonder if the Ms try another Mitch- Garver-type deal with C Ryan Jeffers. He's a RH power bat, who does not strike out much. You could get him 400 PAs pretty easily as a DH/backup C. Maybe he could even add some flexibility and learn 1B?

Aside from Drury who did not play again, these players rebounded ok, improving their OPS by an average of .174 points the following season. A similar rebound (to .738 OPS) would put Cal back in line with his pre-2025 numbers (.740 from 2021-24).

Logan has been great, but the rotation as a whole is 15th in fWAR since June 1st. They're pretty good, but I also think overrated. Probably have been for a while now. This is not the 90s Braves rotation. It's not enough to carry the whole team.

Kind of funny how Ty France is thoroughly outperforming Josh Naylor this year. France also leads 1B in Defensive Runs Saved (11), while Naylor is dead last (-8). Not a critique of the Mariners' process; this is 20/20 hindsight only. Still, the baseball gods can be cruel.

Hancock for Ramos is pretty fair in this market - SPs are valuable but there's a lot of SP available. Absolutely not Anderson or Sloan. I wouldn't hang up if they asked Miller/Woo, but I'd need a decent amount more.

Heliot Ramos is name I like. Controllable. Could replace Randy next year and/or provide insurance if Arroyo/Montes aren't ready for the LF job.

If the Ms make any deadline buy (and I'd consider soft selling) it should NOT be for rental. Get someone who can help next year too because it will take a major turnaround from multiple players to have a shot this year.

The #Mariners are bad because the veterans they've paid are not performing. Period. Julio, Cal, Naylor, JP, Robles, Garver, Refsnyder (every vet on a FA contract or extension) are combined: .220/.301/.344; 90 wRC+; 3.4 fWAR. It's not Dan Wilson. The core is not playing well enough.

Jerry’s actually pretty good at the veteran mid-season acquisition going all the way back to Denard Span. Santana, Turner, to a lesser extent Yonder Alonso, 2025 Geno. Just stay away from these guys in free agency.
