Tampa Bay's secret weapon? No outfield is harder to get a hit against
Just over a year ago, after the Rays finished a disappointing 77-85 and out of the playoff picture, MLB.com’s Adam Berry shined a light on what seemed like a pretty obvious area of improvement headed ...

It's incredible how much better this (admittedly still very flawed) NY Giants team looks by simply "having competent players at punter and kicker" as opposed to last year's "wait, shit, we were supposed to hire a kicker? oh no"

I don't think it was going to be a homer. I also don't think there's any 100% foolproof way to know for sure.

I didn't really understand why Chris Sale had to be used in relief in Game 3 of the WC, and now it seems like it might bite them in the NLDS.

More batters hit .300 in 2026 (7) than did in 1968 (6). I feel like there's a lot of people would be stunned by that. It certainly wasn't "but launch angle" back then, and it's not really now, either.

The Phillies might need 3 new outfielders next year. They won't actually do that -- I don't expect them to give up on Justin Crawford. And maybe one of those outfielders is Trea Turner. But an OF group that was expected to be pretty bad was, indeed, pretty bad, and has to be fixed.

Sonny Gray had elite third time through numbers in 2026 He was brutally bad third time through in 2025 Given the extreme unlikelihood that he discovered a magic elixir to an issue that's plagued basically every starter ever, you've got to treat this all as noise

Something I'm watching for on Cristopher Sánchez today is how he pairs up his pitches. In 2026, going change->change or sinker->change or slider->sinker worked well. Interestingly enough: sinker->sinker, less so.

The Astros don't have a deep rotation and didn't really have a good rested starter for Game 1. Using the bullpen wasn't a "we're smarter than you" thing, it was a "this is our best bad option" thing.

It was the correct move, Don Mattingly made a correct bullpen move. He put his closer in for the 7th and 8th because it was the best chance to see the 9th. Duran piped a 99.9 mph fastball that got hit. There is a litany of managers who lost with their closer standing in the bullpen.
