And single file riding in the same direction as Lawrence, that is. His brakes were defective, he had rheumatic wrists and he habitually rode his 100-mph motorbike too fast on public roads, yet two boys (one of whom was hospitalised in thecrash) are still sometimes blamed for killing Lawrence.

And don't get me started on the opening few seconds when Lean showed Lawrence’s death was caused by two boys on bikes coming towards him riding abreast. In fact, the boys rode single file. Lawrence crashed cos he was going too fast; the cyclists were not to blame.

Mind you, not a lot in the film was accurate. Real Lawrence was 5 ft 5. Peter O’Toole was 6 ft 3. And movie only showed Lawrence on camels and not Royal Navy ships, Royal Flying Corps aircraft and Rolls-Royce armoured cars.

Doesn't annoy me but I believe it still has power to annoy Brough Superior fans — in David Lean’s 1962 biopic Lawrence of Arabia, Peter O’Toole changed gear with a foot pedal when it should have been a hand-actuated gear change.

Cute to see puddles again. Or so I thought at beginning of today’s 52-mile gravel ride in Mid-Wales. Peat bog “puddles” on Monks’ Trod (not really a gravel route in winter, I discovered) couldn't be avoided.
Gravel bike in what looks like a stream but is the path. Gravel bike stood up in mud with big puddles behind. Moorland. Big puddle and bike on floor in distance. Big blue sky with high wispy clouds. Tarmac minor road on right. Green and brown moorland. River and reservoir in distance.

Hard to overstate how much Hegseth's execution stream mirrors the U.S. military's traditional description of ISIS propaganda: broadcast killings designed to send a message, strike fear and create a social media spectacle. Will almost certainly be repurposed by online terror cells

Sometimes my wife and I like to send each other text messages as though they’re democratic fundraising messages, and I believe she has produced the jewel of the form.
, it's
and I
have some personal news to share with you.
Being a mom is one of the greatest joys of my life, and I feel deeply that we should have salad tonight
This year has been challenging in many ways, and I have immense gratitude for the kindness and support of family, community, and people like you who have continued to stand by me through everything. It means the world, and I wanted you to be among the first to know that squash is in the oven and kale is in the fridge. As many of you are aware, ve been navigating one of the most challenging periods of my day while waiting for dinner.
Facing baseless federal hunger brought on by not eating since lunch, fighting for the working kids of this country, and now caring for a mean toddler and helping him grow up in a world that isn't always easy. But it has also reminded me exactly why I do this work and who I do it for.
I will never stop working to eat dinner. I will never stop fighting for what is right, even when there is also some feta in the fridge. And I will never stop being so very thankful that you are by my side in this important work and that there is tahini in the pantry for dressing
With love and gratitude,
stop to end

Talked my way into Oxford University’s Freshers’ Fair in the Examination School on the historic High Street. There was an exhibitor there I wanted to quiz. Person on the booth turned out to be from just 500m from us in Newcastle.

Reuters got some of the IPO docs. Anthropic is a total dog of a company. Spent $12.6bn to make $4.6bn in revenue in 2025, $7.33bn of which was compute costs. Operating loss of $8bn. Losses getting worse year over year. Amazing stuff www.reuters.com/business/fin...
Summary
Companies
• Anthropic IPO could value the company at more than $2
trillion
• Anthropic lost $42 billion in 2025
• Al lab spent $7.33 billion on compute and infrastructure last year
• Operating loss widened to $8.06 billion in 2025 from $2.98 billion in 2024
• Execs, industry analysts have expressed concerns over harms of Al tech
Sept 28 (Reuters) - Anthropic is making a massive bet that Al will transform the global economy more profoundly than industrialization, electricity and the internet, according to its IPO prospectus seen by Reuters.
But the cost to get there will be staggering. Anthropic reported a net loss of $42 billion in 2025, and plans to spend $518 billion on cloud, computing and infrastructure obligations in coming year, according to the
prospectus.
