Just did some number crunching using latest (Oct 1) ECMWF seasonal data, and I must say that I've never seen such high predictive confidence in a very wet California winter. This is a truly extraordinary forecast amid a record-strength El Niño event. [Thread: please read to end.]
Model-relative sea surface temperature anomalies for November 2026–January 2027. The supplied grid is displayed without added smoothing or coastal filling. Beige marks land and gray marks missing ocean values. The main colour scale spans -2 to +10°F, with white at zero. Hot pink marks anomalies above +10°F. This map does not establish an operational ENSO category.

This seems to be getting misunderstood broadly enough that I probably should have put it differently: I’ve read so many calls for Democrats to triangulate around Republican extremism, but I would rather have the choice between two reasonable options rather than fascism and 85% fascism by volume

Remember: Wealth cannot be separated from power. We're seeing in real time how the extreme concentration of wealth is distorting our politics, rigging markets, and granting unprecedented power to a handful of people. Taxing the rich isn't just an economic issue, it's a defense of our democracy.

I lived through it, too. By the end the leading GOP senators of the time were the ones who told him he had to go. There was a younger generation who rose to prominence under Reagan that pushed for revenge, part of which was nominating Bork.
