When I visited the Permian Basin last year—on a fact finding trip w members of the Mexican legislature—it felt like this had already happened. Massive machinery operating w/o oversight. Ongoing malfunctions, fires, unlit flares just pouring methane into the air. A ghost town emergency in process.

We gotta start referring to data centers by both their mother and father's last names, Spain style. The Microsoft-Chevron data center, the Meta-ExxonMobil data center, and so forth. Absolutely no reason just the tech bros should be taking the heat on this shit

An argument we keep hearing from the pro-data center crowd is that we can reduce data centers’ climate impacts by powering them with clean energy instead. That’s not true for this reason ⬇️ and more – and also threatens the progress of our already slow energy transition.

Current satellite snapshot of the North Pacific. It's a wide view, and it shows *three* separate tropical cyclones (hurricanes) between Mexico and Hawaii (indicative of a hyperactive East Pacific hurricane season). Marie is the easternmost of the three.

Yesterday's flash in the Grand Canyon was caused by heavy thunderstorms over fire-ravaged land. Similar to the glacial collapse that caused the horrific destruction in Nepal last week, both of those risk factors become more common and severe with global climate change.

#PlaskettFire is burning intensely on all flanks this evening, has now burned to Hwy 1 and possibly to Pacific Ocean, and is likely over 20k acres at this point. Between Plaskett and #TimberFire to north, much of Monterey County coast is now under evacuation warnings or orders.

Lake Powell hit an all-time record low today. Less than 30ft from power generation loss. Population boom, over allocation, long term drought, warming climate + increased evaporation. This infrastructure was built for a different time, but can no longer sustain.
