Just listened to this - a good one! My mother was irritated by the NatWest Piggies ad as she thought some small children might think they were getting the actual dancing pigs that appeared in it. An early life lesson for them, I'd say. As for Moondog - odd how he keeps on bouncing on to my feed atm.

Giorgio Moroder’s version of (K)nights In White Satin came up on shuffle just as a large bearded man with curly hair and big glasses plonked himself next to me on the train and squeezed me against the window. Quite put me off the track. Life isn’t supposed to imitate art like that.

Was listening to Barry Andrews "Rossmore Road" single earlier on, and then found out via a popular search engine that somebody had dedicated a webpage to the area. www.rhoff.org.uk/rossmoreroad... I wonder if a real-life 3am guided tour of the road might be of limited interest? Probably not.

Just realised that Mark Trevorrow, aka Bob Downe, is in Colin From Accounts! That's probably the first time I've seen him on my television since I lived in Australia about 23 years ago.

30 years old today! I bought this from Our Price in Clapham a few weeks after it came out having heard barely anything of the group's work, just liking everything I'd read about them - one of my wisest purchases. A very threatening, savage collision of JAMC, Kraftwerk and glitter beats.

Had a weird dream last night that Richey Manic turned up at Moorgate station to announce to everyone that yes, he was back, but he was now planning to devote his life to teaching children and young people with speech impediments to communicate more effectively - "communication is all we have".

Blog update: The Timelords aka The KLF reached number one in both the national and NME Indie Charts with "Doctorin' The Tardis". It's a track you could write off as a cheeky novelty hit, except unlike most novelty discs, it's proven enduring to many of us. indienumber1s.blogspot.com/2026/09/117-...

Back home safely. Saw a man in the park who looked like Hans Keller - he gave me a withering look. Not sure what he was thinking. "Why has your dog got to be so terribly large? I just can't bear it. I happen to have grown up with a miniature Schnauzer who was a bit smaller..."

One interesting thing to me - as well as the indisputable fact that very popular things can also be culturally invisible to a lot of people, there's a general suspicion that popularity is fake now, from "50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong" to "50,000,000 Elvis Fans Must Be Bots"

Went for a wander around Calais. It really is a little bit like Portsmouth in the mid-90s, before the council went on their spit-and-polish spree. It's the most English-looking place I've been to in the last fortnight, which probably shouldn't be surprising, but for some reason is.

The Spotify playlist of my hairdresser seems to be whatever is in the Top 40 that week, so purely by choosing to have a well-styled barnet, I am remaining down with the kids (even if I'm not always sure who the big hits are actually by). When I finally go bald, that's when I'll become out of touch.

I find it strange that some people refuse to believe this is the way our decentralised culture works now, that it's possible to be completely ignorant of hugely popular things that don't match your tastes and interests. People aren't lying about that because they think it makes them look cool.

Was meant to be returning to the UK today but instead we've been refused entry at Calais due to the documentation the vet signed in Germany being very slightly wrong (all the correct info is there, just not in *exactly* the right box they wanted all of it to be put). Infuriating to say the least.

I don't know if anyone else on here sells via Gumroad, but I've just had this e-mail that might well interest a few...
"Hi creator,

Gumroad is hiring creators-in-residence. We pay $60,000 for the year, so you can make art full-time. The commitment is about an hour a week, for 52 weeks, and you can do it from anywhere in the world.

We want to see portfolios that showcase your human talent and experience. Paintings, films, music, video games, short stories, whatever you make.

To apply, send a portfolio of your recent work to support@gumroad.com. Applications close October 1 at midnight ET.

Thanks for building on Gumroad. What can we build for you?

The Gumroad team"

The first PSBs album I ever bought (went and bought Please three days later). Dubbed them both on to a C90: Disco makes me think of icy dark evenings, and the Latin Rascals' mix of Opportunities really annoyed my parents - like it was punk.
