Jason Gorman @jasongorman.bsky.social · 28/07/2026There isn't a shred of hard evidence for any dev team getting 10x, 5x or even just 2x productivity using AI. 4731151
Greg Munt @gregmunt.com · 28/07/2026Before we measure productivity, we should define it. A lot of the time, different people have different definitions - sometimes in the same organisation. Often, such differences will align with the goals of their role. 141
Pobol Pobotrol @pobotrol.bsky.social · 28/07/2026As a QA trying to keep up with them, I disagree! 271
NullHedge BongFella @nullhedge.bsky.social · 28/07/2026There isn't a shred of evidence for anyone getting 1.01x productivety from using AI, one you include the cost of..you know...using AI. 000
Sadnehs @sadnehs.bsky.social · 28/07/2026You forget, when they fire half the dev team, the other half 2x's their productivity by working 40 extra unpaid hours every week. 020

I'm That ANTIFA Holly @imthatholly.bsky.social · 28/07/2026Now I see your post! Just after updating VS2022, last time I did was in 2024, so now on latest release and seeing this, which maybe was there, but more hidden!!!😂 At least my project builds and runs. That's always the concern with a two year lapse since last updating. 000
Pamelia Valentine @mommymouse007.bsky.social · 28/07/2026AI ISN'T creative, innovative or competitive. It doesn't care where it is in ranking to other companies or countries. AI has been trained to find & adapt information as the human who's feeding it, desires. I've a friend who changes ALL pics into "fancy" 4 entertainment. That's it. Entertainment. 000
David Cornelson @david-cornelson.bsky.social · 28/07/2026Dude. I just built a new programming language in two weeks. sharpee.net github.com/ChicagoDave/... sharpee.plover.net I have reams of evidence, but it’s not from raw llm code generation. You need an engineering harness to get results. Mine is in my profile. 030
cirroccojones.bsky.social @cirroccojones.bsky.social · 28/07/2026AI doesn't exist. There's no such thing as a sentient computer. Don't trust so-called AI to do anything important. The only thing I've heard someone say it's good at is reverse engineering drivers for devices and I don't know if that's even true. 000
Mascot @mascot68.bsky.social · 28/07/2026I figure reality will be a more nuanced: everywhere between a huge drop, to a huge win, depending on use case and how it's applied. My personal rule of thumb, that I tell my bosses, is more or less "maybe 20% is a realistic potential gain, probably not worth the token cost". 000
Rambler @ramblingfool.bsky.social · 29/07/2026Quite a few stories of Co's having to re employ the human teams they binned when they first went all in on AI, seems you can't trust the results, and it needs human oversight 🤯 000
Nyx Cipher @shadowops.bsky.social · 29/07/2026So glad I quit the coding shitshow years ago, already scrum meetings up the wazoo attended by people copying and pasting dodgy code off stack overflow.. everything was *ruby* but the jr guys had never mastered the basics so you always got bloated crap that had more holes than cheese 010

OCB1640 @ocb1640.bsky.social · 28/07/2026My brother has been a dev since the mid 1980s. He was able to do in 3 days what previously took him 30. Delivered into Production, including testing & documentation. That’s literally 10x from a very senior dev. Sure, lesser experienced devs will get less, but don’t kid yourself - it’s real. 150
Kris Lipscombe @btnkris.bsky.social · 28/07/2026I'd say maybe 1.25x for me personally, just because it's really good at writing the test cases for unit tests. 150
Swizec Teller @swizec.com · 28/07/2026We'd probably have to be a 2x or 3x larger engineering org to get as much done as fast as we are right now we're also still hiring more there's so much to do 040
TekNeex @tekneex.social · 29/07/2026There is definitely an abundance of hard evidence that now I can take mid-day naps with no *reduction* in productivity, tho 😉 As has always been the case—and will always be the case—my “productivity” has a direct correlation to my “compensation”, regardless of which tools I have available. 010

rdsf138.bsky.social @rdsf138.bsky.social · 28/07/2026 And how could anyone ever produce such "evidence"? Productivity cannot be measured in absolute numbers. The premise makes no sense to begin with. 101

Nick @smplfi.bsky.social · 28/07/2026In my experience, AI can be helpful both as a learning tool and for automating away some tedious work, but productivity gain claims are ridiculous. The only way you’re gaining significant productivity is by passing work onto someone else. Someone has to take responsibility for the code. 1140
Brainiac Kim 🇨🇦 @brainiackim.bsky.social · 29/07/2026I had paralegals complained that it spat out wildly inaccurate - opposite - outcome/analysis of the files. Which they still had to review manually anyways, 2x the work & 4x the frustration. AI can't do thinking work, which humans can. That's why education is expensive for the specialized training 020
Brainiac Kim 🇨🇦 @brainiackim.bsky.social · 29/07/2026Nope, yet employers are demanding it be used for work 010
Kit Fox @foxfirekit.bsky.social · 28/07/2026It's improved development speed on my team, which would be great if we didn't spend all that extra time in meetings to explain to the nonexperts why the code they produced is slop and their prompts don't even make sense and could they please stay in their lane. 030
Consumed @consumed.bsky.social · 28/07/2026At this one MSP in the US, substandard network engineers used it to configure firewalls and network equipment for businesses and medical facilities.
