I’ve been covering the NFL on TV for about a decade now and every year there’s a QB CRISIS or an INJURY CRISIS or some other thing people cite bc they always want to believe things were better before

I don't think they are better or worse than before but they seem to have too many more reasons to throw the flag or waste time w/ video review over a minor decision. That plus all the commercial breaks has made me watch it less.

I can usually ignore their nonsense, but sometimes the complaining, especially when broadcasters get worked up too, can lead to demands for rule changes that just make the games worse.

my belief is that refereeing has always been this bad. technological advances just make it easier to isolate and examine a criticize every mistake.

I don’t know if officials are worse but for me it’s that us as fans have more info, better camera angles and watch with more knowledge of how the game is played we see more mistakes that have always happened but couldn’t either see or identify them. Fans got smarter officials stayed the same

I actually think that MLB umpires have gotten significantly better (no more Eric Gregg games). Basketball officating is too random / inconsistent. Although hard to know if we see it more because we can watch every game.
