Firing your coach for going 9-15 in two seasons so you can hire a coach who went 4-20 in his last two seasons as a head coach

I seriously have no idea why you’d hire Pat Fitzgerald. He wasn’t a playcaller or strategic mind, his whole schtick was selling Northwestern Culture because he played there, and then it turns out that culture featured a brutal atmosphere of sexual hazing

Kind of a cheap shot. He was the most successful coach in Northwestern history but you already knew that. Got Northwestern to pay him around 100 million after a wrongful termination but you already knew that too. Sorry, he isn’t the cool hire you approve of.

He can stick it to the haterz even more by hiring DJ Durkin.

But he is constantly angry and irrationally hates Michigan, which are the two key job requirements.

But have you considered the advantages of not working for three years? Everyone know the people you hire that haven’t been working for several years have the best ideas. He might even get a big Twitter following! 🤣

Desperation. MSU desperate to fill a job nobody in their right mind would take. Desperate times, desperate measures. Smith must be ecstatic.

It's bad enough we have Smith only 2 years (barely) to recover from Tucker and then immediately jump into this dumpster fire...as an alumni I hate all of it. Really not happy and not sure who decided this shit.

Yeah, but the last time you hired that guy (on an 18-17 record at Cincinnati) he took the program on a legendary heater through the aughts.

JARED GOFF @icedbrew2.bsky.social · 30/11/2025

I feel as though Michigan State should try to not hire coaches tied in any way to sexual misconduct. I mean, no school should hire them, but if I'm the MSUs and PSUs of the world I'm taking extra care. Then again if I'm Baylor or Liberty that's probably a resume booster.

The only hire worse for the program I can think of off the top of my head would be Brian Kelly. Legitimately terrible decision all around, and as an alumnus I am pretty strongle disappointed in the direction the new AD is taking with this and the venture capital BS.
