Dalton @daltonherriott.bsky.social · 28/02/2026"When he returned, Mikoyan introduced a number of popular American consumer products to the Soviet Union, including American hamburgers, ice cream, corn flakes, popcorn, tomato juice, grapefruit and corn on the cob." I would make a man king if he introduced me to even half of that stuff 0512
Any Doubts @anydoubts.bsky.social · 28/02/2026He wasn't just "a guy"; he was the Minister of Foreign Trade of the Soviet Union and an old Bolshevik. He remained in power from Lenin to Brezhnev (40 years!). Mikoyan purchased the entire food production plants, as well as packaging containers and other equipment, in America. Not just "copy". 171

Pavel @spavel.bsky.social · 28/02/2026The USSR had a love-hate relationship with the USA, and admired many things about American industry. Citizen Paul Templeman @paultempleman.bsky.social · 28/02/2026😂😂 Is that true? I dearly hope so. I read ‘Muppets in Moscow’ by Natasha Lance Rogoff, telling the story of how America tried to take Sesame Street to Russia. Highly recommended.. 000
Andrew Ross 🇺🇸🏴 @andrewross.net · 28/02/2026Yes! And he was tasked with figuring out how to feed starving Soviets. He was the brains behind the cookbook, “The Book of Tasty and Healthy Food”. There’s a fascinating @99pi.org podcast episode about him & the book (and the hamburgers): 99percentinvisible.org/episode/453-...99percentinvisible.orgThe Book of Tasty and Healthy Food - 99% InvisibleOfficially titled The Book of Tasty and Healthy Food, it was often known simply as “Kniga” (translated: “book”) because it was one of the only cookbooks to exist in the Soviet Union.
