As Mayor of NYC, of course Mamdani should attend 9-11 commemoration. And Giuliani should crawl under a rock & stay there. But the mayor's appointment of Kassem as NYC's chief legal counsel is an unforced error-NOT bc of religion but it shows a lack of sensitivity to ALL 9-11 victims & families.

On the one hand, unlike the NYPD Commissioner on 9/11, Zohran hasn’t been convicted of multiple federal felonies for tax fraud and lying under oath. Nor was he disbarred for lying about an attempted coup like Rudy. On the other hand, he’s Muslim and not white, so who’s to say which is worse?
