George Monbiot @georgemonbiot.bsky.social · 09/09/2025So when Yvette Cooper goes along with this pretence, boasts about all the flags she hangs in her garden shed (really? and, er, why?) and says “put them up anywhere”, she is, in effect, saying: “have the territory.” 2/3 12922112
George Monbiot @georgemonbiot.bsky.social · 09/09/2025Here’s the thing: we do not concede *one inch* to the far right. Ever. Anywhere. They are not just another political player. They are a threat to everything our ancestors fought and died to protect. They are not to be appeased. They are to be stopped. Rip down the flags wherever you see them. 3/3 341487284
psbaker10.bsky.social @psbaker10.bsky.social · 09/09/2025Incomprehensible; I thought a year ago that she would be the sensible one, the experience one who would help keep the show on the road. Couldn't have been more wrong. I really wonder what Ed says to her at home, or are they estranged? 000
David @paddlingphotog.bsky.social · 09/09/2025Flag fetishists aren’t patriots, they’re nationalists. Anyone who equates the two is lying or needs a dictionary. 070
Stephen Murphy @stevemur67.bsky.social · 10/09/2025British people are starting to realise their flag is often used for menacing and intimidation purposes, as anyone living in Northern Ireland knows. Maybe the effigy of immigrants in a boat on the giant bonfire, near a housing estate, surrounded by union jacks, was too subtle a message. 000
Susanita @spanglish51.bsky.social · 09/09/2025They are behaving like uncastrated Pit Bulls & need the same response . Must be covered by the Dangerous Dogs Act … with the same consequences . 050
Empathy Sinner @neptewn.bsky.social · 09/09/2025You are correct. Context matters! Intent matters! 010
Rob Weaver @robweaver.bsky.social · 10/09/2025I know its the royals but replacing St George's flags on the streets with these might be fun. Still England but none of the far-right connotations. Raising the colours for patriotism rather than xenophobia. 100
Ian Fraser @ianafraser.bsky.social · 09/09/2025This is right, not one single inch. I suggest going further. Reform has demonstrated at its party conference that it is racist. That label should be nailed on to Reform by everyone of goodwill. bylinetimes.com/2025/08/27/l...bylinetimes.comBot Verification 010
Vicki Harris @vickilawshalls.bsky.social · 09/09/2025The flags are too high to be reached and ripped down. And I fear that removing their symbols won't do anything beyond making us feel a tad better. We need a serious plan to stop the march of fascism before it gets worse. 000
mattemashita @mattemashita.bsky.social · 09/09/2025finally the normally racist term "political correctness gone mad" makes sense, in the context of the media & government coddling fascists 040
Neil Charles @neilcharles.bsky.social · 09/09/2025Labour doesn't even need to reject flags to counter this, it's easy. "Crudely zip tying a Union Jack to a lamppost is not respecting the flag. Graffitiing a St. George's Cross onto a mini roundabout is not respecting the flag. We support flying the flag but let's do it with some pride." 0181
David Nice @davidnice.bsky.social · 09/09/2025The ones in Sutton, which I saw on the way from clearing out my late mum's flat in Banstead, where I first saw them, show it clearly. That the guy from Carshalton who initiated turned out to be fraudster is bad. that the pub/club whose owner challenged the flags had its windows smashed in is worse. 010
neilfromneath 🏴🍉 @neilfromneath.bsky.social · 10/09/2025I'm in Wales; England flags have always gotten ripped down... 000
Darren @dazska.bsky.social · 09/09/2025I dislike the Far Right as much as anyone but I could never support the ripping down of our flag. 500
Esther @elhopkins.bsky.social · 09/09/2025Totally agree. It’s conceding to the right. I’m not against being patriotic but this isn’t about that. Context is everything. 0192
michael-martin22.bsky.social @michael-martin22.bsky.social · 10/09/2025It just shows how pathetic and unpatriotic these flag-shaggers are, many of the Union Jacks in my area are upside down. 021
Nualaatpeace @ros14.bsky.social · 09/09/2025I will. They're graffiti. They are against the laws of the highway. Local councils need to clean the public highways. 000
Bill @billn.bsky.social · 09/09/2025They have never learned the lesson that appeasing fascists by by being a bit fascist enables them, it doesn't stop them it encourages them and helps them grow. 0100
Tinah The Queenah 🇵🇸 @tbskbskysocial.bsky.social · 09/09/2025You're right. Fascism doesn’t deserve a platform, only resistance! 0246

ruders77.bsky.social @ruders77.bsky.social · 09/09/2025It is done to intimidate non white people. It is racist. It is in reality illegal. The government are too scared of the racist supporting right wing press organisations. 050
Andrew Jones @arj2024.bsky.social · 09/09/2025Locally, flags on lampposts have been placed at half-mast. I'm not sure if it's a gesture of respect or just the result of a short ladder. 110
Diana @ditotts.bsky.social · 10/09/2025Trying to encourage our Town Council to have the protestors lamppost flags taken down. The flags give an uncomfortable sectarian feel to the place and I don’t think ‘cost issues’ is a good enough reason to leave them there. The cost of appeasing the far right will be greater. 030
Final Round Player 😷🇪🇺🍸 @jbond.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 10/09/2025@georgemonbiot.bsky.social Commenters please note. This story is about England, not the USA. The Flag People have zip-tied St George and Union flags to lamp posts all across England. Now, this is a temporary thing, right, for a week - month - year? When are they going to take them down again? […]mastodon.socialOriginal post on mastodon.social 000
The Parable Of The Broken Overton Window @broken-overton.bsky.social · 09/09/2025One further point to make here, they have also been spraying and putting up the English flag in Wales. If Labour want to be associated with that, then on their political heads be it. 327323
All Our Yesterdays @allouryesterdays.bsky.social · 09/09/2025I think this is the Parable you are looking for. 12911
elgido.bsky.social @elgido.bsky.social · 09/09/2025Even as a Welsh person who has ancestry dating back generations, I would certainly feel more intimidated going into a pub covered in English flags. Although, I think it might be more to do with the sort of people I would assume frequent such an establishment! 020
An Unresolved Person #FBPE @fran-tic.bsky.social · 09/09/2025Isn’t “just ripping them down” the very fight they are spoiling for, I’m not saying I don’t get an urge to do so but then I have a conditioned response to the St Georges Cross and its association with the NF and footy hooliganism. But I do like the Union Flag that often flies from Blackpool Tower! 020
