Dendon @cielenbleu.bsky.social · 16/11/2024The right has realized that they can lie and not face consequences. The left refuses to lie and believes in the inherent goodness of people. 000
Chris Pomfret @chrispomfret.bsky.social · 16/11/2024More than ever before the right has coordinated its efforts and is more prepared to lie. 020
Mandoline Blue 🕸️ @mandolineblue.bsky.social · 15/11/2024I am not one of those people. Trump's victory has made me see the importance of grassroots activism and communities in change making (and keeping.) 1131
Amanda @doramaqueen.bsky.social · 15/11/2024I'm not sure that's entirely true. I think the genuine left, absolutely believe anything is possible. The problem is too many liberals (who think they're left-wing) have chosen to be gatekeepers for Capitalism & would rather protect their own privilege; than allow the left any access to power. 4193
D.B. @mcftw.bsky.social · 15/11/2024The truth is critical analysis of sources isn't taught AND the mainstream media and online social media pushes relentlessly right wing ideology and simple right leaning populist answers that people just soak up. Done by both domestic ideologues and hostile foreign actors 100
Rob Willoughby @abbenay.bsky.social · 15/11/2024A pretty astute observation - but I wouldn't say it applies to everyone on the left... 010
RF_Dude Слава Україні 🇺🇦 @rfdude.bsky.social · 15/11/2024I disagree. The right has realized (for a long time) that lying and manipulation and brute force work much better than reason when they sell their unreasonable & bankrupt ideas, while the left has never tried to sugar coat the hard work necessary to accomplish good things. 010
Tom @comfortablytom.bsky.social · 15/11/2024I think it's because being right-wing is easy. No nuance, just black/white, right/wrong, blame everyone else instead of trying to make things better. 050
Harry Barnes @harrybarnes.bsky.social · 16/11/2024Don't recognise it as such, in fact, the other way around. Left wing ideas that should help everyone are seen as impossible by the right, whereas the right generally believe in the impossible as they're factually or plainly the wrong thing to do. 020
Kitty Bhagat @voiceinwilderness.bsky.social · 26/11/2024I feel it's more complex than that. Thomas Malthus predicted human population growth would eventually outstrip Earth's resources: water, farmland, food. Whether or not they realize it, ppl. instinctively know there will be a fight for survival. Ethnic wars Border closures Genocide. H2O vanishing. 000
Perfect Orb 🍄 @perfectorb.bsky.social · 16/11/2024No, centrists believe nothing can happen, leftists believe in overcoming capitalism! 020
Steve Dawe @stevedawe.bsky.social · 15/11/2024As a member of the Green Party in England, and connected long term to various Green orgns, I think there is rather more optimism in the broad Green movement because of recognition that pessimism is abdication too often. The left retreats into its own history and analyses; Green orgns motivate acts. 000
Jeffo @jeffotherefo.bsky.social · 16/11/2024Garbage. The success of the right is the result of the triumph of capital. Unrestrained by taxation or a sense of responsibility capital has invested in and successfully supported right-wing 'libertarian' groups who mistakenly promote even less restraints and less taxation on capital. 010
Irritated Llama @irritatedllama.bsky.social · 16/11/2024The Left never try to redress the balance of power when they are in office. They just accept the power structures in place. They SHOULD be holding the crooks to account and pulling us back towards the center. 020
muzzac.bsky.social @muzzac.bsky.social · 16/11/2024Unbelievably trite, George, and certainly not accurate. I prefer it when you present a reasoned argument, rather than a greetings card aphorism. 010
Judith_IP @judith-ip.bsky.social · 15/11/2024I think much of it comes down to this: Hate and stupidity sells. 010
Dominic Rivron @dominicrivron.bsky.social · 16/11/2024If you represent the ruling class, anything *is* possible: what you want to happen is what would happen if the world were managed by the ruling class without the inconvenience of elected government. Your only problem is selling it to voters which, if you're unscrupulous, is not that difficult. 000
Paul Russell @pwrussell.bsky.social · 16/11/2024Also the right never gives an inch. Any progress made by the left, however small, is seen as something to be stamped on and undone immediately. Anything they do is must be treated as permanent and irreversible. 020
KZ Comments w/o A Commentary @kzcomments.bsky.social · 16/11/2024Those decisions are made at the DAVOS meetings 000
DoloressEd@GDudek61 @deloresedd.bsky.social · 16/11/2024The rich have control of the media & have always had it. This is used to fuel the far right & control the overton window. Giving liberals the main voice as the alternative. The left needs proper media outlets to claim back the narrative. Unions would do better to fund this rather than Labour 000
William Thomson @williameconomist.bsky.social · 17/11/2024I agree George. We have a failure of imagination. 000
handle.invalid @lemondropp.bsky.social · 15/11/2024the right make things a bit worse, so people feel insecure and a bit miserable and become less liberal. then the right make things a bit worse... 060
Jerome @jeromegill.com · 15/11/2024Not quite. The left regularly wants things. It's the centre that says nothing is possible. So we get things like 5p plastic bags and deals involving short pauses on oil drilling contracts, starting in 2 years, and promises to honor any signed in the meanwhile. 041
fozzy878.bsky.social @fozzy878.bsky.social · 16/11/2024The far right is supported by moneyed interest. There true left is not. The main centre left parties are supported by big business and set up to pass nothing. Literally there to make us question govt efficacy. We need to build power structure behind the left again. Strong unions, mass protests. 000
skeet dreams (of you) @judenonesuch.bsky.social · 15/11/2024What’s that, George? “Whenever the left has ran a platform that anything is possible they are relentless ratfucked into oblivion by the sensible Centre”? I couldn’t agree more! 171
Lisa L Worth @lislou.bsky.social · 15/11/2024So true. It’s utterly shocking, what some think acceptable to brandish as truth, right, decent. Stiff that even ten years ago would be considered cruel, bigoted and plain bad for humanity. 000
Stephen Morley @geraldwinstanley.bsky.social · 16/11/2024I would put it that the right has tapped into a strong sense of resentment among many, allowing for radical unorthodox ideas; much of the left is attached to left social democracy (Corbyn), which isn’t radical enough. 000
Flat Six @flatsix723.bsky.social · 15/11/2024I think the right has harnessed the power of doing whatever it takes to do whatever it wants, regardless of consequence, while the left still believes that the moral stance can be effective. To overcome extremism, liberals need to first understand how extremists think. 011
Graham Caswell @grahamcaswell.bsky.social · 15/11/2024The far right has two things 'the left' doesn't: (1) A coherent story (i.e. go back to the past) and (2) Unity (as Trump said, he could shoot someone and they'd still support him) In contrast, the left sell minor, incremental changes changes to the status quo while attacking each other on purity, 100
Flavia Elphberg @flaviaelphberg.bsky.social · 16/11/2024The right is in fascist lockstep with itself while the left is herding cats focused on their own interests above other interests. Sigh. 000
Simon Kavanagh @greenspacesimon.bsky.social · 15/11/2024The right has always successfully boiled complex issues down to easy fixes. Often erroneously but in a short news cycle it works. The left often over-grapple with some issues, currently prioritising identity issues above obvious class-based explanations. That lack of articulation is so frustrating. 1130
