Amanda Litman @amandalitman.bsky.social · 19/02/2024Today the Alabama Supreme Court made IVF essentially illegal by declaring un-implanted embryos “human children.” What happens in a red state never stays in a red state (see: the Dobbs decision that started in MS) - we can’t ignore these places. 191097367
Mike Karabinos @mkarabinoswrites.bsky.social · 19/02/2024This will not be resolved in the Jury Box or the Ballot Box. 000
Laz @laz1985.bsky.social · 19/02/2024Every day I am given a new reason to regret having been born in Alabama. 010
olive the mushrooms @olivethemushrooms.bsky.social · 19/02/2024Does this mean if you have a bunch of frozen embryos in cryo while you’re doing IVF you can declare them all as dependents on your taxes, or take out life insurance on them? I just think it would be funny if someone tried… 070
Staid Winnow @staidwinnow.bsky.social · 19/02/2024I keep saying that the antiabortionists have not stopped winning, and I keep getting told that I'm out of touch with reality. 47% of our voting population doesn't give a shit about abortion rights. "But, but referendums in red states, motherfucker!" 050
Microwaveable plastic’s monster @squigglymips.bsky.social · 19/02/2024This is the logical conclusion of “life begins at conception” but I never thought they’d do it. I didn’t think they’d go after the kind of people who have money for IVF 1140
Ernest Belding @misterernest.bsky.social · 19/02/2024Well, Alabama now instantly has a vastly higher infant mortality rate and much lower life expectancy, looking forward to those stats. 040
Chainsaw @nephiliman.bsky.social · 19/02/2024It’s Alabama… of course. That’s why real humans don’t live there. 100
surfingthepast.bsky.social @surfingthepast.bsky.social · 19/02/2024Remember the other day when NYT explained how the Republicans were going to successfully “triangulate” the abortion issue. 1200

YourPalPest @presidentpesticide.bsky.social · 19/02/2024It's fucking Alabama, the only place in the us that elected a conspiratorial wing nut and Prolly legalized fucking your sister, so I don't know what you expected 220
LJ and Mike @ljmd.bsky.social · 19/02/2024Thank you for raising that what happens there doesn't stay there. Alabama is a proving ground for conservatives to push further to the R. Then, the policies get tweaked and moved to FL, TX, etc. Minding AL politics isn't an excuse to laugh at batshittery, it's a way to keep tabs on the crazy. 020
Christopher May @chrismay.bsky.social · 19/02/2024These red states are going back to the middle ages. 0110
Zeroisanumber @zeroisanumber.bsky.social · 19/02/2024I gotta imagine that the state legislature has to take action because letting the ruling stand basically makes a huge chunk of fertility medicine tantamount to manslaughter. 5340
Sekhi, Booper of Snoots 🏳️🌈 @sekhithefops.bsky.social · 19/02/2024This is complete batshittery. Whoever was on the bench there clearly has no idea what IVF even is. 1160
Sara @pussyflaps.bsky.social · 19/02/2024the fact that this is still happening and getting worse is so hard to process in my mind. im from canada and SO FAR, as far as i know, we dont have anything like this... yet.. 000
Marisa @marisamiller.bsky.social · 19/02/2024Not to mention the completely theocratic approach of the written finding by the judge. Scary weirdness! 'God made humans in His image so IVF is bad'. Separation of church and state much? 000
Nick Fish @nickfish.me · 19/02/2024The outright theocracy in the Chief Justice's concurrence would make Roy Moore blush. 020

Coyote ^.^ ΘΔ @coyoteden.bsky.social · 19/02/2024Are they going after IVF, or IUDs and Plan B? Because generally, more fertility is what they want. 220
