Important, impressive NYT reporting reveals Meta's AI surge is funded by abusing an innovation tax credit, "the second-most expensive federal corporate tax break, behind only the reduced rate applied to offshore profits" - which Meta also exploits. We must close ALL corporate tax loopholes.

Microsoft says its disclosures "reflect the scale of our US infrastructure investments, and taxes deferred today will be paid in future years." What they don't say: will those taxes be paid in the US? The same tax disclosures show Microsoft pays more tax in Ireland than in the US!

Hyperscalers like Microsoft are making giant tax-subsidized bets on AI that are yet to turn a profit. Worse: when the profits come, the intangible nature of AI services makes these profits especially easy to shift to tax havens like Ireland, potentially losing even more revenue. Link below:

IRS audit revenue fell sharply last year after the Trump administration cut the agency’s workforce. The IRS lost roughly 30% of its audit staff, and as a result, lost 35%, or $3.5 billion in revenue from taxes already owed.

"It's no exaggeration to say that trillionaires (Musk likely won't be the last) are creatures of the tax code. They ought to be called "taxillionaires."" 🎯 It's not right that taxes on returns to capital (but not labor) are deferred, allowing those returns to compound untaxed. We can fix this.

The Trump administration is gutting the law that ensures big corporations pay a minimum amount of tax, and companies like Meta and Qualcomm are reaping billions. As I told @bloombergtax.com, Treasury’s regulatory actions have the cumulative effect of basically repealing CAMT.
