I recently had a pretty shitty experience in a Spanish group class at a fairly prestigious language school, and it makes me wonder, does having a linguistics background and having already studied 5 other foreign languages just make me an absolute nightmare student?

This this this this so much this. As someone who changed their name twice, when I see people criticise someone for changing their name, using a pseudonym, or even being known by their middle name - as a certain former PM did - it gives me the ick a bit.

6% would consider it cheating, 19% would not consider it cheating but would not be okay with it, 54% would not consider it cheating and would be okay with it, 21% dont know / prefer not to say. The results are laid out by political party affiliation (CON/LAB/LD/REF/GRN) with no correlation by that metric visible.

The name Lake Ontario comes from the Wendat word Ontari’io, which, appropriately, means “the lake is beautiful, the lake is big”.

The name is more than 400 years old, predating both the Confederation of Canada and the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America.

We know that America is changing. Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms.

Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario – then, now and always.
