This is a great piece of the inherent limitations of consent education to prevent sexual assault. It is especially true in the Australian context with campaigns such as teach us consent that harmfully framed rape as an issue of misunderstanding or miscommunication (thus removing boys/men’s agency)

Nicole is a leading expert on the issue of campus sexual violence. I am floored that USA Today would do this to her. I find this kind of journalistic behavior unethical and morally reprehensible, twisting an interview with a renowned advocate for survivors into a hit piece against a survivor.

When disabled people/many people who work on disability/health pointed to the dangers of this kind of framing since COVID, they were usually mocked ("oh you think everything is eugenics") or ignored. But normalising the idea that the deaths of disabled people are desirable/reassuring is dangerous.

My fellow historians, which single academic article of yours do you think 'teaches best', i.e. for both staff and students it's doing work that leads to a strong class discussion + students remember it? I am interested in how people see their own work. I'll go first. Hit reply and link your pick!

‘White Australia’ has always been a myth. Hanson lamenting its end is wrong – and dangerous
Australians have every reason to be angry at our political elites. But Hanson’s nostalgic and false history does not hold the answer.

Simple explanations and contextless analysis are the death of good history. Embrace the fact that it's difficult, that it's weird, that it's convoluted, and that it's complicated. It'll give you the answers you're looking for.

Just 1 example of the kind of thing unis are getting for their massive spend on consultants. ANU spent $6k on a "non-significant meeting" with a reputation management firm at which apparently no one took a note. That's more than a tutor gets for a semester's work thepoint.com.au/opinions/260...

A black and white photograph of a young woman wearing a small tiara, a white frilly dress, white elbow-length gloves, and a sash that says "Riverland Citrus Queen Competition". She has a cheeky smile, and an engaging expression.
