The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting that the HVO coal mine extension approval went through because the coal will be sold to countries with strategies to limit emissions. In other news, it’s fine if my kid trashes each room in my house so long as he promises me a wizard will magic it away.

[The Future Fund] bought another 8,000 shares in the Israeli company Elbit Systems, with the value of its holdings in the defence technology and electronics company jumping by another 128 per cent (from $8.6m to $19.7m). Two years ago, the Future Fund only held $1.3m worth of Elbit Systems shares.

Wanna see something cool? I just updated my chart showing Australia's total climate pollution, comparing our fossil fuel exports against our net emissions at home. Anyway it's a bit bleak.
Chart comparing emissions from Australia's fossil fuel exports with the country's net territorial emissions while in 2005, emissions from the two were roughly the same at around 650 million tonnes per year.

In 2026, emissions from exports are well over two times greater than emissions at home.

Scanning books to make them available in new formats is not bad in and of itself. For one thing, ebooks are often the best format for people with disabilities. But the idea that AI companies are hoovering up this content bc the LLMs must be fed is hideous.
