I hope the survivors who came forward years or decades ago know that they are the reason the Cornell case is resonating the way it is. Every single one of you helped pave a path for people to understand the harms of rape and institutional betrayal. Thank you. I know it’s hard. But thank you.

If sexual abuse was really considered a terrible thing, the world's richest and most powerful people wouldn't be abusers. The most valued technology wouldn't produce sexual abuse on demand. And allegations of abuse wouldn't be framed as positive depictions of masculinity. Our culture rewards abuse.

Victim-survivors of family, domestic and sexual violence must feel safe to seek support. Having their private conversations with 1800 RESPECT handed over to their perpetrators, does not provide that safety. It just adds to the trauma they’ve already experienced.
