Annoying that Kansas City still doesn't have a presence here on a social network of tens of millions with many active KC residents. @olatheks.gov seems to be the only metro city with the technical prowess to...sign up for an account and set a DNS TXT record lmao

I'm excited for a @royals.com urban ballpark, but let's make it an urban ballpark. That means not retrofitting the city to speed cars in and out, but connecting it to the neighborhood with bike and pedestrian infrastructure and solid transit — making it easier to get there on foot and on a bike.

FYI to anyone boarding at Union Station: Northbound is at the southbound stop, southbound is at the northbound stop (so go to the opposite direction stop)

Worth noting that this study contradicts the Populous study on the same Compass page you linked (the "UR Design Guidelines" report), which encourages more pedestrian friendly experiences and multimodal transportation.

Must have several public meetings to implement a road diet, but I assume this "modification" (weasel words) can all just be done under some blanket Royals umbrella.

Good news, it looks like the cycletrack was not interrupted by Extra Virgin valet! Still strange that of the entire new build, this is the one place with pavers instead of poured concrete but I'll take it.
Facing west down 19th St at Main St in Kansas City. A new cycletrack is complete on the south side with bollards, concrete pavers, and paint. Street parking is on the north side of the cycletrack, but not for the last half block where the track diagonally meets Main St.Facing east down 19th St at Baltimore Ave in Kansas City. A completed cycletrack is on the south side of the street with concrete medians separating the street parking from the track. A yellow plastic bollard gates the track.

Good to know BikeWalkKC is working with the city on this. I think frustration stems from the sudden FUD about ebikes, while seemingly no one cares about the 30K+ deaths due to cars every year. Right-on-red is still legal for a 3-ton vehicle, yet we're not simultaneously addressing that.

18th from Crossroads isn't a bad walk or bike, but the sidewalks and bike lanes could use updating. Shame they couldn't spend some of those millions improving the connection there.

It definitely stands out! Kind of seems like an impossible construction style (Escher), but also the racks and bikes look a bit like "links" across the path. Can't find an interview with the artist about the piece but I'd be interested in hearing more about the design.

In Europe, where they've slowed cars and invested in safe bike infrastructure, e-bike trips increased by 72 percent in 2025 and injuries per million trips fell by 18 percent. The safety problem is not e-bikes. The problem is US roads are unsafe for everyone, particularly people walking and biking.

This lane isn't complete yet, but I really hope this isn't the intended use for this new lane. The sign in the right says Valet Only Fri/Sat 5-11pm, but it also says Paid Parking M-F so I think it's the old signage.

This part of the new cycle track gets to suck because Extra Virgin seemingly can't operate without valet car parking.

The Draft fanfest was packed to the point of hours-long lines, but when we went to Teocali for dinner it was empty except one other table. The problem seems to lie with NFL (and probably FIFA in a month) capturing the lion's share of visitors in a roped-off area to capture their spending.

Left field suites smoosh right up against the American (you can see the distinct off-angle box), which implies the backside of Hall's (already closed) will probably be reworked to be a stadium entrance directly connected to the 3rd floor of Crown Center Shops. Neat!

The routes crossing the Crossroads/Crown Center divide over the tracks are not great. Mainly narrow concrete barrier gutters on bridges, with Grand being the nicest one - but even there we have some pretty bad neglected buildings. Should probably put thought into walkability here.

Note that the rendering is actually missing a new 5 story University Health building at 25th & Charlotte! Hopefully we'll see more infill on surface lots. I assume since Hallmark owns the lots north of 27th they'll play into new Royals private development (can you say hotel at 27th and Grand?)

The 22nd & Oak and 22nd & McGee intersections are going to be more heavily used due to 71 access. @urbanlabkc.bsky.social put out a design for roundabouts here a while ago. It would be nice to see something like this implemented.

The traffic on Gillham here will get worse, so I hope we can utilize a CBA to harden the Gillham cycletrack (and probably 27th lanes).

Stadium NE corner looks like potential entertainment/entrance. The current 25th/Pershing/Gillham intersection is not very walkable (especially the west side), hopefully we see a complete rework of the roads here.

Yesterday, Kansas City eliminated outdated minimum parking requirements across much of the city. The old rules drove up construction costs, kept storefronts empty, and made it harder to build affordable housing. This is how we build a more walkable, more affordable Kansas City.
