I taught social studies for my first nine years teaching and have moved to ELA the last three. When I can work to combine the two it always feels right to me! Our 8th graders conduct an interview with a veteran and often learn a lot about the life of a family member or family friend. #BFC530

It varies honestly. Some are able to adapt to it quickly, others struggle. This year I’m considering making a screencast tutorial to show the ins and outs to see if that helps. I haven’t used it much myself. It is usually a scenario where I help students by playing with the tool myself. #eduskychat

A1 The Ed tech Tool I couldn’t do without these days is a class website. I keep all sorts of materials and assignment information there. If students have a question, I can often often point them to the site. Also screencastify is great for sub plans…he says as his daughter looks sick #eduskychat

Some great points in your post Jordan! I am curious, do you think we could incorporate listening to audiobooks in class more? Do you think that would help some student? So many kids enjoy being read to, I wonder if that could help some. #bfc530

I feel we have to teach them to be curious. They can look up any fact they want at any time, but that doesn’t mean they have a natural curiosity. I try to create activities that promote curiosity. #bfc530

8th grade ELA Students who do read consistently seem to have better demeanors towards school and assignments. They are also better able to connect with the world around them. Students who don’t read for pleasure seem intimidated or uninterested in school work. Limited connections as well. #BFC530
