The small bowel itself was adherent to itself and plastered to the posterior wall. Patient wants his Automated PD as he has needle phobia and so the surgeon obliged with his pre op wishes and inserted the catheter. I suspect early Encapsulating Peritoneal sclerosis.

He was readmitted 3 weeks post recommencement of regular APD with tenckhoff catheter dysfunction (has inflow but poor outflow) not responding to the usual enemas and fortrans. POCUS showed free fluid above the bowels. On laproscopy the catheter was found to be entombed in small bowel.

#AskRenal I have a 72 year old on Automated PD since 2022 who initially defaulted PD for months and once recommenced on PD developed vomiting while on PD. Non compliant to follow-up and his last PET test in early 2023 showed a HA transporter.

Quick question - if I want to give Cefoperazone-Sulbactam for IP antibiotics for Automated PD with 10L exchanges can I use the Cefoperazone data in ISPD guidelines ie 500mg/L loading with 125mg/L for maintainence or is that overkill? #AskRenal

Medtronic pulling out of the endovascular fistula creation market. Wow. This is from the American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology. And can't find this information on the medtronic website or with google. That may be a me problem though.
Dear ASDIN Members:
Due to the importance of this message below to our field, ASDIN is sharing the Medtronic media statement with our membership. ASDIN will continue to advocate on behalf of our members and will work with other providers to continue availability of endoAVF options for patients.
Medtronic Statement
Medtronic has made the decision to discontinue offering the Ellipsys ™ Vascular Access System for arteriovenous fistula (AVF) creation in all geographies. In a commitment to our customers, we will ensure they have up to 12 months of supply and up to six months of field, clinical, and cannulation support and will work closely with stakeholders to transition to alternative fistula creation solutions over the coming months.
This decision will not limit patient or physician options for fistula creation. As the current standard of care, surgical fistula creation remains an option for any patient who would be a candidate for the Ellipsys system and an alternative endovascular fistula creation technology is commercially available in the U.S. and other regions.
Medtronic remains committed to the arteriovenous market, focusing on effective fistula maintenance with our IN.PACTT™ AV drug-coated balloon and the Fortrex ™ HP PTA balloon catheter. While this was a difficult decision, this strategic shift will enable us to prioritize our resources towards fostering innovation and developing new therapies where we can have the most significant impact. This decision is aligned to Medtronic's active portfolio management work, an important lever to delivering on the company's long-term strategic and financial objectives.

A Kaplan-Meier survival curve showing cumulative survival over a 28-day in-hospital stay period for four groups: "Vaccinated without AKI" (blue line), "Vaccinated with AKI" (red line), "Not Vaccinated without AKI" (green line), and "Not Vaccinated with AKI" (orange line). The x-axis represents in-hospital stay in days, and the y-axis represents cumulative survival. The survival rate decreases more sharply in the "Not Vaccinated with AKI" group, followed by the "Vaccinated with AKI" group. The "Vaccinated without AKI" group has the highest survival, followed by the "Not Vaccinated without AKI" group. A log-rank test shows a p-value of 0.026, indicating a statistically significant difference in survival between the groups.

This is interesting. Given you can see extensive replacement of the kidneys in ADPKD with a relatively normal Cr, find it hard to believe that a few medullary cysts are causative of progressive CKD risk but maybe they are a marker of various know/unknown genetic predisposition to progression?
