As the Trump admin is calling in thousands of people here for years who are protected from persecution in their home country, Tom Homan is on TV saying people who want to avoid being sent to Africa can just "self-deport." So it's accept persecution or be deported to a third country.

Tom Homan, President Trump’s border czar, said people in the U.S. illegally can avoid being sent to “third countries” in Africa and other places around the world by self-deporting to their home countries.

This past week, the Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration to continue its third-country deportation effort.

Latest: I wrote about internal ICE reviews---now deleted from ICE's website---revealing new details medical neglect in detention centers. The reports contradict DHS' public statements both generally and specifically about in-custody deaths reason.com/2026/10/01/i...
According to the internal report on Blaise's death, "A mortality review committee (MRC) determined BTC did not provide Ms. BLAISE medical care within the safe limits of practice."

The MRC found that, after Blaise collapsed, "1) BTC health staff deviated from basic life support (BLS) protocols; 2) Health staff failed to initiate cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), despite Ms. BLAISE's pulselessness; and 3) Health staff did not include Ms. BLAISE's vital signs with their documentation of the emergency response."

The mortality report contradicts the public report ICE published on Blaise's death, which claimed that staff called for emergency medical services (EMS) and "immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation" and "continued providing CPR until EMS personnel arrived."

When ICE announced Chaofeng Ge's death by suspected suicide last year, they didn't mention that he was found hanging with his hands and feet tied behind his back. The account in a mortality review ICE posted (& removed) this week also suggests a very different response than initially reported.
Ge was detained at the Moshannon Valley Processing Center in Philipsburg. He had been in ICE custody for five days and was awaiting a hearing before the Department of Justice’s Executive Office for Immigration Review. MVPC staff discovered Ge hanging by the neck and unresponsive in the shower room of his detention pod at 5:21 a.m. They immediately lowered him to the ground, began CPR and contacted Phillipsburg Emergency Medical Services, the Pennsylvania State Police and the coroner’s office. On August 5, 2025, at 5:20 a.m., while conducting unit count, two detention officers (DOs) found Mr. GE, bound at the hands and feet, hanging in the handicap shower stall in C-Unit, pod 4. The DOs left the scene to inform the control officer, and the control officer called the medical emergency. Two medical staff members responded within four minutes, ordered Mr. GE's cut down from the shower stall, immediately initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), applied an automated external defibrillator (AED), and followed the prompts (no shock advised). At 5:31 a.m., custody staff called emergency medical services (EMS). At 5:44 a.m., EMS arrived and took over life saving measures; however, EMS staff were unable to resuscitate Mr. GE. At 6:03 a.m. a Clearfield County, PA, coroner pronounced Mr. GE deceased.

A federal judge ORDERED the Trump admin to privately show him the memo purporting to justify boat strikes that have killed 234 people in the Caribbean and Pacific. Judge Engelmayer rejected several rationales for withholding the memo from the public and will determine whether to release it.
The Court directs defendants to file the declaration(s), and to arrange for the Memo to be available for in camera review, within two weeks of this decision. See ACLU II, 2016 WL 889739, at *6 (ordering Government, within five days, to produce document at issue and “advise the court who has received [it] (including persons who received it from its original recipients) and for what purpose”); Elec. Supp. 2d 157, 172 (D.D.C. 2011) (directing agency to “provide further explanation regarding whether it shared with non-Executive Branch entities the responsive documents that it withheld from the plaintiff”). Defendants are authorized to make appropriate redactions in the declaration as publicly filed, while filing the unredacted declaration under seal.
